Sierra Stripping
Can anyone give me a rough idea as to the time it would take to strip down a sierra?
I have just moved house where i now have a garage, but i don't want to upset the neighbours straight away by having a rotting carcase of a
Sierra on my drivway for months.

I did mine it 3 weeks in a single garage.
stored the bits I wanted in a garden shed. Then.
Cut it up into little pieces and took it to the tip.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

I dont think i will have enough room in the garage as it is only just wide enough to fit the Sierra in and open one of the doors.

if you u2u me a list of what parts you need - i now have a full rear beam already stripped off a sierra - as well as a set of front hubs and im in

I did mine in a day at my mates farm. Fork truck thro windows to get it up a height, shell dumped in skip afterwards.
Fair dos not many people have this option but may give you some thoughts.
A weekend should see it stripped enough at home so that the donor parts can be worked on indoors.
Keep the id tags and declare sorn asap. V5 is your receipt.

Do i need an engine hoist to remove the engine when stripping, or can it be fairly easily removed by cutting it out of the car and few mates to shift
it into the garage?

I'd say use an engine hoist to lift the engine and g/box out complete. Cut the front cross member out of the chassis and remove the rad to make
it much easier.
A Pinto + g/box probably weighs >130kg and would do you some damage if you dropped it 
PS - you can hire engine hoists for ~£25-30 for a weekend from Speedy hire etc.

I've just completed stripping my sierra, bearing in mind I'm a total beginner, it took a total of 32 hrs. Mostly just 2 hr stints in the
evenings.
Best things I bought was a £30 angle grinder, a set of impact socket (6 sided) and 2 duck oil aerosols. An impact gun would have made things
quicker.

If it's you and a couple of mates and you know what you're doing, about 6 hours...
Start on Friday and book the scrappies for the Monday...
Give all the tough nuts (hubs etc) a good soaking with penetrating oil etc beforehand to ease the process..
