Hi guys I have a Mk indy r1 5pw and had a bit of a play with my mate other night he has a e46 m3 track car fully stripped out, exhaust,panel filter,carbon bonnet wings bonnet, bumpers ect weighs in at 1175kg and there was not a great deal in it rolling start from 40mph to about 110 about a car length or so in his favour I was quite suprised I thought I might of had the better of him I run a power commander and Quickshifter nice 4-2-1 manifold and 6"carbon can 13's and 3:62 diff but have never had it mapped yet what are your thoughts / experiences obviously once we got to about 120 he pulled away as I wasn't far off flat in 6th
I'd think the m3 should be a fair bit quicker In a straight line. But not under braking or cornering
I think thats about spot on was what I'd expect, try from 20 next time
So 5 grands worth of car built in someone's shed is slower than a £40,000 car with half a billion dollars of development behind it... who

Yes suppose when you put it like that it's not all bad ha ha ! Must admit it I was quite impressed my self
fit saab turbo engine and a full body then you wont have a problem. its quite fun waiting for them to boot in a straight line it then blast past like
they are not moving :-)
the drag coefficient of a 7 is about .60 where as an e46 m3 is about .35 so its understandable that they start pulling away at plus 50-60mph as they
have a significant aerodynamic edge.

Agreewith the above 320hp in 1200kg and 150hp in 550kg (approx figures) are very similar power to weight ratios jaroung the 275 mark) so you would expect straight line acceleration to be similar, now try it on a tight twisty track and see who has a problem braking, turning and accelerating out of corners. I was on a track day at Bruntingthorpe a few years ago where acouple of very light r1 fisher furys were running rings around a porsche 911 turbo (except on the straight).
Mine will just about accelerate a Porsche GT3, easily goes by M3's

I like e46 m3 drivers on track days. They are serious enough to choose a good car and know how to use it. One of the best tussle I had at brands was
a very well peddled one with slicks. I had him in the end by I guess .3 of a second bit he was FAST!!
I think on track they are on the lines of a lotus Exige which I had fun with at Bedford on time. About the same time difference.
Back to OP. I expect that to be the case. Our cars are not that great at straight line until you get 200bhp. Lower than that it's all about
breaking and cornering.
300hp there is no point just beating them, first you sit right on their tail egging them on in the corners then when they boot it out of the turn
on to a straight you totally annihilate them in a straight line like they are not moving
well thats my twisted idea of a fun day out anyway

Fit an M3 engine to your 7, problem solved? They are great engines, although maybe physically a bit big for most 7s.
