Recommendations for camping trip in Scotland

Hi, I’m looking for ideas to go camping with my girls in the trailer tent, being Aberdeen based we’ve done, Edinburgh (many times), Bair Drummond (many times), Dundee, Nairn, Inverness, Dingwall, probably some I have forgotten. Being April, I’m a bit weary of going North and our range is about 500 miles total with a week’s duration. Dogs staying home with the wife

Skye, harris, Lewis, awesome countryside - if you drive out via Mallaig they can even see the famous viaduct - if they are into Harry Potter

Never taken the kids out there but most of my holidays as a kid where there. Oban campsite might be an option, could also stop half way are Nairn.. Thanks

Aviemore or Fort William as a base, plenty thing to do around those areas.

The viewpoint on the hill at head of Loch Shiel is amazing, if you time it right you can also watch the steam train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct from the same point.

Isle of Skye.... if you get lucky with the weather.

Just remember the Avon skin-so-soft for the midges!

not sure that the train is actually running at the moment as it has the wrong kind of doors,...

Skye is nice, with loads of options for scenery. Midges are an issue if the wind's calm. You could go mad and go over to Mull, or similar - show them Tobermory!

Both good if they're the sort of kids who enjoy scenery and walking (and can put up with rain now and again). Not so good if they always need to be 'entertained' as there's nothing like that on the islands!

How about going south to places like Bambrough, Seahouses, or Lindisfarne?

Northumberland is great, fabulous 2nd hand bookshop in Alnwick and castle.

Plockton, at the back of the Kyle of Localsh. (remember Hamish Macbeth?)

Gives you Skye or mainland options.

It's on the Kyle/Inverness railway line as well. A trip worth doing in it's own right.
