is there anyone from the Braintree (Essex) area. I'm interested in building a locost, but would like to have a chat and see whats involved before I make the plunge.

Have you bought the book? There are chassis plans and guides around that'll help you along with forums like this and also peoples' build diaries. Try following some of the links above- they'll give you an idea of the work involved but the book is the best guide.

Good luck finding someone near you- I think there are people in your area.
