Bed's/Hert's Run out
ChrisL - 6/4/14 at 07:23 PM

I'm thinking of organising a run out, if there's interest. It'll be SKCC style so sat navs and itinery loads of info' here: http://www.southernkitcars.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=44

I have a route in mind that starts at Baldock services off the A1 and ends at the black cat roundabout also on the A1, obviously the route isn't direct!! and should take about an hour. The idea will be to meet at 7 AM on a sunday morning date to be decided but I have one in mind.

So you up for a blat? PM me you email and I'll send you the route and date?
Please don't publish the route or date.
If you know of any great roads in this area let me know, I'll happily amend the route.

Cheers
Chris

So far it's us 3 plus a Tiger OC member and a SKCCer

hornetV2 - 10/4/14 at 11:06 AM

U2U sent, picked up the info on the 7DNA forum.

ChrisL - 12/4/14 at 08:27 PM

I should point out that the start point has moved slightly to:
Sainsbury's
Bells Brook
BIGGLESWADE
SG18 0NA
Looks like the petrol station is 24 hour: http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/sol/storelo ... re_details

Potentially up to 12 of us!

AndyW - 12/4/14 at 08:55 PM

Sainsbury Biggleswade, that's all of 1 mile from me so happy days, will be there!!!

ChrisL - 13/4/14 at 08:06 PM

And I have changed the finish to the Silver ball Cafe, just south of Royston on the A10 and it's about the only decent cafe thats open early on a Sunday.

Hi Chris/guys,

Not on here much at all, but spotted this thread and this run out is pretty close to me and sounds like fun so I'm definitely interested to join if I can. U2U sent!

Cheers,
Gary.

greenwood03 - 15/4/14 at 07:18 AM

nice one Chris, carrying the SKCC flag into Herts/Beds ?
Will do my best to come up to join as you've done the reverse a few times, be a good chance to catch up, and will be fun to see if you've managed any dodgy waypoints on the itn :-)

ChrisL - 15/4/14 at 06:41 PM

Indeed boot is firmly on the other foot! Be good to see you and the other SKCCers :-)
Gotta spread the SKCC love!!!

Hi Chris

I'm not clear on the format of this blat.

Is it basically a convoy run, or a mystery tour with individuals following the ITN? In other words, do you need a Tom Tom to take part? Or is it just required in case you get seperated from the others so you can follow the route?
If I get lost, I'm more thna happy to make my own way to the finishing point

Best regards
Billy

Hi Billy

I've found that the SKCC has come up with a winning formular of using satnav itineries, so it's not meant to be a convoy. This allows everyone to drive at their own speeds, with a bit of blatterquette (?) i.e letting faster ppl past, without getting lost and all end up at the finishing spot That said there's at least one chap who won't have a satnav so will need ppl to not loose him. When we meet I'll get thouse with out satnav (or satnav that can't do itineries) to make themselves known, so that those with satnav can keep them in tow.
I'll be mailing out the route a couple of days beforehand and if you know the roads it should be doable from memory but it's not a straight forward route.

I think once ppl see how good runs can be with a satnav they get it...

There's loads of infor on .itns and satnavs on the SKCC forum (link at the start of the thread) but it really is the way to do this.
I plan on organising (or getting you guys to organise) some more .itn based runs in this area and hopefully introduce ppl to the SKCC.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris

Thanks for the info, the sat nav idea makes sense, its just that mine is way past its best and no longer works. I have just bought a new set of dampers, and have two races next month, so funds are low at the moment for a new one.

Will definately be there if the weather is OK.

olimarler - 26/4/14 at 09:40 PM

What's your thought on tomorrow?

ChrisL - 26/4/14 at 10:14 PM

I'm still up for it, looks like the bad weather won't come in till 10, that said if it's pi55ing down when I wake up then I'll cancel...

Cheers for coming along today, I had a good run and I hope you did to, I've put the report up on the SKCC website: http://www.southernkitcars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5810&p=87302#p87302

AndyW - 27/4/14 at 12:22 PM

Cheers Chris, was a good fun drive. Pity my car played up, but back home got exhaust off and removed cat. Went for another 40 mile blat to test and perfect!

Thanks again, and look forward to the next one.

Thanks Chris, and all the others,

Had a great morning, and a good chance to give the car a shakedown prior to racing this coming weekend. The car grounded out a few times on the a bumpy bit of road, however it has a titanium surround on the bottom of the engien bay which protected the sump (apparently made some nice sparks!). A gentle drive back along the M11 revealed a funny noise at around 50mph from the nearside, which turned out to be a split weld on the silencer. All fixed now, so looking forward to next run out
