hyundai timing chain ?
theconrodkid - 16/6/14 at 05:07 PM

Ok peeps,i have a hyundai I 20 1.2 petrol, lovely little car he is too but....every so often and only when starting from cold he makes a noise, sounds like a gearbox bearing gone, dip the clutch and knock it out of gear, moving or not the noise is there for around 10-15 seconds, then it goes and comes back again for a couple of seconds then quiet again for the rest of the day.
it,s at engine speed and i am thinking timing chain tensioner, anyone have any experience on these cars ?.

Done a lot with Amica's If the I10 uses same engine, and I suspect it does, then it don't have a timing chain, it on belts but could be belt tensioner. Have you checked for loose alternator or pulley ? Does it happen more after starting ie alternator working hard to 're charged battery?
When you do find out please post result , it benefits everyone. Good luck

deffo a chain on this engine,it,s an 09 plate.
dont do it every time, only some first starts of the day and it sounds like my old FIAT did when the 1st motion bearing went.
cant see it being trans as dipping the clutch makes no difference.
any idea where i could get a workshop manual ,proper paper one, haynes dont do one as i supose they think they are too reliable for that

Are you sure it isn't an auxiliary drive belt issue the load on the alternator drive belt can be very high after a cold start.

belt, alternator and tensioner are all ok.
it,s a real metalic noise as i said, just like then my FIAT box went for a siesta
