Whirly thing?

Alternator? Fan? Rubber UJ on the end of the steering column?

...more info needed!

Hi David
Sorry it's the alternator that's in the way, don't really want to go the route of putting in another uj in the steering just wondered how the others had got around it.Also how has any-one else got round a gear shift extention got a metro one but that's push for reverse and this 5 speed ford one is lift for reverse.
cheers and beers

One more question - which engine?

If it's the Pinto, some builders have made brackets that moved the alternator up a bit (I thought it was Les Newell, but his site doesn't show anything about this - I think he's changed engines).

I've fitted a mitsubishi alternator on a bracket I fabricated that mounts off the block using the same bolt fixings as the original cast iron alternator mount. The alternator is a lot smaller and lighter than the original one on the 2.0 injection pinto that I'm using. I also moved the top adjustable mount bar to pivot off the thermostat housing. I'll try to get a photo on the site later if it helps, but I'll be busy tonight preparing for my SVA retest tomorrow.

PS - I think that I've seen a drawing for a bracket that was used for an escort alternator on the Yah.. Locost group. I found it after I'd made mine.

Cheers,

Colin

Is it a book chassis?. My 2ltr pinto alternator clears the column easy. I made my own mounts and ran the column through the bulkhead so it's lower.

Sorry about that. I'm in the wrong thread mate. Try a shorter fanbelt
