Hi everyone, are there any disadvantages to using the bike's original radiator in a car set up? The engine in question is the R1 5PW,
Thanks in advance
Marc

The original rad wasn't designed to work with extra long cooling pipes. That might cause an issue.

Mine has an after market one, but doesn't look much bigger than a big bike rad and cools it just fine.

Used the standard yamaha rad and expansion tank on a 4xv engine with no issues. Just swapped the fan for a bigger one.

Hi Marc

I have been running the standard 5pw rad in my Fury for 20k miles plus and in an R1 Phoenix previously. Trackdays, long tours down to spain and south of France with Ambient temps in excess of 35 deg C in city traffic, motorway and at high altitude. The standard rad and fan has been no problem. Only change I would recommend is a manual over-ride on the ECU controlled fan cut in as I think the ecu governed 105 deg cut in is a bit high in my opinion if you have your air intake under the bonnet.

Cheers

Jim
