Air fiilter Air box quesions

Ive got a few questions about air box and air filters for BECs .......R1 5VY

1) Is there a benefit of using an airbox over just a sausage style filter?

2) Should a fuel injected engine always use an air box?

2) Is there a better filter to go for or will a Pipercross PX600 do?

3) Any other pointers or pointers before i decide?

4) Whats the differences beween a PX500 and PX600 filter?

Ive got a Pipercross airbox on it at the moment but its quiet bulky s to save room i was going t use just a sausage filter but wnted pros/cns etc

Cheers

N1

Noise reduction, protection from water, ability to control where inlet air comes from and potentially keeping the throttle bodies inlets out of turbulent airflow.

No hard and fast rule here, but if an engine was mapped with an airbox then removing it to use an open filter can upset the fuelling.

The Pipercross filters are ok, just keep them cleaned and oiled as recommended. The difference between the PX500 and PX600 is simply size.

Thanks for the reply mate.

What brand of filter would you suggest or are they all similar? Im still undecided as to if i use the airbox or just a filter. The airbox needs some sort of ducting to allow decent airflow by the looks of it due to the small intake hole
