I just bought a mid engine kit car part designed and built by Chris Hollier (who built alot of mini based kit cars called "mosquito" mine
was registered as a wentworth mosquito.
I want to do quite a few changes for the future but I got it on the road as it is in under a week from being sat since 2005. Its good fun.
I need to make a new petrol tank, and add some brak bias valve as the fronts lock up far to easy with not much weight up front.
Needs the body smartening up with some GRP nose cone and side panels.
But its great fun!

Looks more rear engine than mid engine to me, but that's just being picky 
engine is in front of the rear axle so mid engined, beetle or a porsche 911 is rear engined.
The designer of it built quite a few of these buggies based on a mini, and you can see alot of shared design cues with my car.

Well I have nearly done 1000 miles in it mainly on country lanes. I have been quite pleased with the handling. Quite a few people have asked is it
beetle based! I suppose because from some angles it looks a bit like a sand rail/ UVA maybe?
I have had to rebuild a few things. The exhaust broke so I rebuilt it with 2 silencers longer downpipes and flexible joints. I reduced the noise now
so I won't wake the village and have increased power aswell :-)
Replaced the old motorbike sealed beams with some H4 bulbs and redone the wiring for the front of the car.
Added some ducting to direct the frontal air though the radiator to help keep its running temperature down a bit more ( have suffered one boil up
arfter some spirited driving)
The driver seat is now working loose so thats on teh urgent list to add some steel to the seat mounitings.
Does anyone know any good suppliers for parts to make your own wet wheather gear?
Future plans will probably se it sporting a 1.8 or 2.0l 16v golf engine with a hydraulic passat gearbox basically will all easily fit as it a common
conversion for MK1 golfs so hopefully will hav it running a 5spd box and an extra 40-50bhp which it could do with as it feels fast with it 1.6 8v
(110bhp) but could easily handle alot more power.

I go this back on the road earlier this year arfter adding an electric booster pump for the coolant which I would recommend to all midi builds to help
boost the original coolant pump, only for the engine to die on me due to the worn out K JEt injection system, so it is having a bit of an upgrade.
So now I am fitting it with a 2.0L 16v ABF Golf Gti engine, this mounts in with different engine mounts as a direct swap for the old Mk1 golf engine
I had to re design the gear linkage to a cable change system that required some serious trail and error to get working, but now have a much better
shift than ever before. I have had to rebuild the firewall to make room for the new engine.
For more reliability it will be running on megasquirt ECU. hopefully it will be back on the road for the end of the UK summer!

It's back on the road :-) now running with a 16v GT i engine and megasquirt! I will post some pictures up, yes it is a bit ugly the front end grill needs improving but that can always be improved when I get time.

I have been busy making a New exhaust for the 2L 16v engine and added frame work to the rear arches, hopefully will be back on the road in the
summer.
