Breaking 1998 Mk2 1.8is MX5
inkafone - 29/1/13 at 10:13 PM

Will be breaking this, hopefully next month. It's done about 65K and has the 140BHP engine,ABS and LSD. There's a proper black hardtop, softop in good condition, beige leather seats (some wear on the drivers bolster) and 7 spoke BSA alloys. The reason for breaking is a rotten passenger side sill, airbags removed & cat removed so it won't pass an MOT. The engine starts easily and the oil was changed every 5K since I've had it (from about 26K). Apart from the sill the body is in good condition plus all the electrics work (brilliant 4-speed heater in these). I refurbed the brakes a few years ago although the disks do look quite rusty through lack of use. I also fitted an LPG system about 3 years ago but could never get it to work properly (enough to get it through an MOT without a cat though). So the inlet manifold is tapped for the LPG.

Prices
Hardtop - £250
Engine & Box - £500
Seats - £150
Alloys with decent Firestones - £200

There's obviously lots of other parts but ideally I want to sell the engine/box first before I start dismantling everything else.

That back box should sell for more than that, advertised on MX5OC ot MX5 Nutz.

Its no good on a Sevnesque car, so I have no remorse in making sure you dont mug it away/

u2u sent about hard top.

You interested in selling it complete?

inkafone - 31/1/13 at 12:13 AM

thefreak - I really need to get as much as possible for the car hence why I'm breaking it.

HOL - thanks for the heads up on the back box - just checked they're £199 new and mine's only done about 1K miles

Somebody must want this engine/box - it's the 140BHP one with a very sweet gearbox - comes with all ancillaries including recent coilpacks and magnecor leads. Plus it's only done about 65k with regular oil/filter changes. These engines are very robust and are non interference so no damage with a snapped cambelt.

I think it's the price...

I bought a complete Mk2 donor for less than £400 with decent engine. No hard top, but everything else listed above. It also had rusty sills.

Have you tried MX5Nutz?

Engine/box now £350 - this is complete with engine loom,ECU etc. It's still in the car so can be tested.
