recovering reg from a very non- super 7

Anyone had experience of putting a very old car back on the road with regard to the reg number ?
In a far cry from my MK Indy days, Ive been given a fully dismantled 1930's Austin 7 I'd like to put back together. It hasnt turned a wheel in over 30 years and may not have been taxed for nearly 40 from some accounts.

Though theres no need for road tax nor MOT I'm wondering if i am safe just using it with the reg number thats on it given the car has been off the dvla's books for such a long time and for all i know the number thats on the plate could have been sold long ago ?

There's some good guideance on the GOV.uk website on the process that's needs to be followed to reregister it.

See here

A friend of mine is about to start restoring a 1904 (14?) Rover motorcycle. He has most of a frame, most of the forks and some of the engine, and he's fairly confident he'll keep the original reg. The frame has the number on so I guess that's all they need.

Cheers

I'm sure that if you join the Austin Seven Owners Club they will be able to assist with reclaiming the registration (if it hasn't been sold off) at worst they can verify the chassis age and get you an age related plate.

At worst they will want it inspected, they used to send people around for this.

it should not be a problem
