Does This Sound Right (eBay Content!)
scootz - 30/7/08 at 03:43 PM

I've just emailed a chap about an engine... he's agreed to sell it to me now at a seriously low price!

He has no feedback, and doesn't accept PayPal... he wants to conclude the deal through SquareTrade... this is his last message

hello,
square trade its an ebay service...
ill contact ebay and inform them that you are my buyer...then ebay will end you a payment invoice...you will send the money to an ebay agent...ebay check the payment...will confirm me your payment...ill ship the engine...you will receive the engine...ebay will forward the money to me...
ok?
regards!

Does that sound right? I thought Square Trade was a warranty service!?

I'm suspecting scam, but I'm letting it run until all the facts are in.

scootz - 30/7/08 at 03:44 PM

New message...

ok,
then email me back these details:
your full nme and address
your ebay user id
your ebay email address
your phone #
and confirm me the price you will pay
and immediately after ill contact ebay to start the deal today
reards!

scootz - 30/7/08 at 03:45 PM

I'm trying to think what he can use those details for?

Could he access my account with those details?

Mr Whippy - 30/7/08 at 03:49 PM

if it sounds too good to be true...

chrism - 30/7/08 at 03:49 PM

chrism - 30/7/08 at 03:51 PM

scootz - 30/7/08 at 03:52 PM

Yep - established that SquareTrade do not take cash as a third party... he's been told to politely go away!

Shame really, I was so looking forward to another RS4 engine at £500

scootz - 30/7/08 at 03:52 PM

Ah... and this is the reply he gave when I questioned his honesty...

scootz - 30/7/08 at 03:59 PM

That was his reply... not mine!

I observed very British rules of diplomacy when dealing with him... I didn't swear once!

Mr Whippy - 30/7/08 at 04:01 PM

I'm winning the bidding!!!

Steve
Also messaged to ask if I win is it ok if I collect as he's only down the road from me...

BenB - 30/7/08 at 04:43 PM

I just sent a message, wonder if I'll get a reply

I can't do direct money transfer. But would you take Nigerian Naira via a Western Union bank transfer? I just ate 419 hot-dogs in a competition and got paid 120,000 Nigerian Naira. I think it's more than the engine is worth but perhaps I could get the competition to transfer all the money to you then you could include the change in the crate with the engine. They even gave me a t-shirt to show how many hot-dogs I ate. It's very nice. It's says "419 Eater" on it. How strange- I just looked up your e-mail address on google and it keeps on coming up associated with scams. To$$pot.

scotty g - 30/7/08 at 04:47 PM

Hot Dogs! BRILLIANT.

scootz - 30/7/08 at 06:45 PM

Oh dear... had an email waiting for me from him asking "how's my feedback".

Looked at ebay and seen that he's just gone and bought 2 of my 'buy it now' items under another name, and instantly left me negative feedback... TOSSER! First in over 180 transaction and over 2 years of using the service...

Now I have to go through the rigmarole of putting it all right!

scotty g - 30/7/08 at 06:58 PM

right, lets really go for him now!

BenB - 30/7/08 at 06:59 PM

So rude- he's not replying to his Ebay messages.....

scotty g - 30/7/08 at 07:15 PM

not replied to mine yet either and i was nice and polite, was going to wait for a reply and then pi55 on his parade.

scootz - 30/7/08 at 07:20 PM

Only spam him if you have nothing for sale... I've discovered that he's now bidding on all my other items!

r1_pete - 30/7/08 at 07:29 PM

Interesting response

hello,
the engine will come from dublin...
if you want to pay cash then you need to go to dublin...
regards!

What are his other ids? you can block him from bidding,

site map - manage bidders - blocked bidders list.

Jon Ison - 30/7/08 at 07:38 PM

His complete V8 for sale dont look to complete to me ?

Send his messages to ebay, they will act on them, I know ebay stinks at times but they will sort your feedback if you report him and his scam n messages

scootz - 30/7/08 at 07:47 PM

Bit bizarre - he's now taunting me about my freshly tainted feedback profile

I've had an email from the 'buyer / bidder' on my other items saying that they can't understand why bids have been made on his / her account.

Bit concerned now, as when you 'buy' an item do you not automatically get access to the sellers address? Bloody hope not!

scootz - 30/7/08 at 07:49 PM

Latest email...

your account will never be back..and ill hunt you down...you will get more negative feedback soon...take care and see your feedback daily...
ha ha ha...poor scambag...

Jon Ison - 30/7/08 at 08:05 PM

you need to report these messages asap

r1_pete - 30/7/08 at 08:06 PM

Just checked a couple of my outstanding buy iy nows, I can see the sellers address in the payment details.

Are you saying he's hacked into other peoples id's to buy your items??

scootz - 30/7/08 at 08:10 PM

I think so... the name used to buy / bid on my items is Iona100.

As I said, I've had an email from this person saying they don't understand what's going on! I can't be sure if this person is indeed innocent, or whether it's the original scamster!

Bit concerned as if it's him, then he'll get my address from the items he 'bought'!

scootz - 30/7/08 at 08:11 PM

Are you saying he's 'bought' some of your items Pete? Check your feedback!

scootz - 30/7/08 at 08:13 PM

***DO NOT SPAM THIS GUY - HE'S HACKING ACCOUNTS LEFT RIGHT AND CENTRE***

locogeoff - 30/7/08 at 08:21 PM

His last communication has turned this into the criminal offence of assault, this matter should now be reported to the authorities i.e. the Police.

There really should be no more posts on this thread, methinks in order to not predjudice the case.

[Edited on 30/7/08 by locogeoff]

scootz - 30/7/08 at 08:27 PM

Appreciate your input Locogeoff, but this guy is more than probably operating from Nigeria or the likes, so there will be nothing the Police can do.

I've sent everything on to eBay.

r1_pete - 30/7/08 at 08:42 PM

No he hasn't bought off me, I have bought a couple of buy it nows, completely seperate, was just checking if the seller address is obtainable. Looks like, if cheque payment is offered, your address is obtainable.

Probs best left alone now, and get your fbk sorted by eBay. eBay is going to dissapear up its own ar$se if it doesn't sort these scammers out, and its raft of other issues.

scootz - 30/7/08 at 08:48 PM

Phew... was hoping that someone else from here hadn't been caught up in it!

Got an email from eBay to say that Iona100's account was hacked??? Not sure whether to trust it or not - I've become very sceptical of all things ebay over the last few hours!

I just accept PayPal as a means of payment and can't remember whether it automatically displays the sellers address when you hit the buy it now button (or do you have to make payment before you get to that stage?)

locogeoff - 30/7/08 at 08:51 PM

Connecticut USA apparently is where the nob licker registered the address

scootz - 30/7/08 at 08:54 PM

Cheers Geoff... I can rest easy tonight!

There are no planes from the states landing in Scotland until tomorrow morning

owelly - 30/7/08 at 09:27 PM

But that is just his registered address!! he could be anywhere. Chances are he's just some plank sat in his bedroom, scamming whoever he can.
Pass all the details on the the BiB. They have specialised departments for this sort of thing. They should be able to trace him. Even if it is just to confirm he's not based in the UK!!

scootz - 31/7/08 at 08:23 AM

Bloomin eck!

I've phoned them and told them, and I've sent them several emails telling them... and the listing is still on ebay this morning!

scootz - 31/7/08 at 08:26 AM

And they haven't removed my neg feedbacks!

PS - my local BiB (and I suspect non-local BiB) won't do anything with this other than give 'advice' - i.e. don't worry about it!

scotty g - 31/7/08 at 11:06 AM

Just reported him to ebay as well.
Told them that he offered it to me after i had asked a question but wanted me to pay via a non existant bank and that i could not collect as it was not in london as listed but Ireland instead.
He also has a Rover V8 for sale as well.

scotty g - 31/7/08 at 11:15 AM

Bidding now up to £310.00 on it, some poor buggar is in for a shock.

scootz - 31/7/08 at 11:36 AM

Can't believe ebay's uselessness (have I just invented a word!)

It's taken me three 20 minute phone calls to get them to remove the feedback comments... and they've only removed one of them - I'm guessing that will be another 20 minute phone call!

Aaaand... the original offending listing is still there!

scootz - 31/7/08 at 04:52 PM

And despite further phone calls and an email from them saying that they've deleted the feedback - it's still there!

sgraber - 31/7/08 at 11:16 PM

That listing comes back as an Invalid Item for me. So it's gone.

Sorry to learn about your troubles. How do these people get away with this crap?! I mean I know, it's a rhetorical question.

scootz - 1/8/08 at 09:54 AM

Yep - listing disappeared this morning... only took them a couple of days to sort out out!

My 'neutral' feedback with disparaging comments is still on my profile despite having been told in text and voice that it's been deleted!

scootz - 1/8/08 at 05:32 PM

Hurray! Feedback back to normal!
