Main cap bolts NEEDED
Dooey99 - 3/12/13 at 07:47 PM

I'm after the crankshaft bearing cap bolts out of a 1.8L silvertop zetec engine, or if not just the four that also hold splash tray in the sump as these are the 4 I need.

Someone please help out a fellow car builder I'm willing to pay for the bolts and postage and beer. I just can't source these bolts any where and I've been searching for about a month, the only ones I can find are ARP but I can't warrant spending £100 for 4 blasted bolts
Thank you in advance

What are the specs and I can see what our works fastener supplier can do them for.

Tbh I haven't a clue, I need to it them in the newer zetec engine to allow me to put my Era sump in :/ I think, like the cap of the bolt has a thread cut internally in it to allow another smaller bolt to go in

Told you before. Contact Scholar engines, they will sell you 4 Silvertop maincap bolts and spacers to suit a Blacktop that will allow you to fit the windage tray.

http://www.scholarengines.co.uk/contact.html

Used them on my Blacktop, cost £16 posted.

Thanks mate

I never saw it before perhaps I'm just thick LOL

£58.92 from scholar engines f*ck me that's not cheap either

Paul Turner - 4/12/13 at 11:13 AM

That price is probably for the whole conversion kit to fit the Silvertop sump onto a Blacktop which includes the windage tray.

Dunnell (who charge stupid prices) charge £70 for kit which includes the bolts, spacers and windage tray.

If you only need the bolts and spacers it much cheaper, as I said I paid them £16 inc P & P.

Sorry am I missing something here?

They are standard parts.

Is the obvious thing not you local ford agent? Go in look at the pretty pictures on the screen and say "i'll have some of those please"

The bolts are standard Ford parts but you need the spacers to fit under them. Unless the spacers are made of a suitable material and correctly machined there is a very good chance the bolts could loosen under normal use and then the loose cap would probably cause terminal engine failure.

For the sake of a few quid is it worth risking engine failure.

As I said I am 100% certain Scholar have quoted for a kit including the windage tray. If Dooey99 does not have a windage tray and needs one this that is a decent price, if he doesn't need it they will simply sell him bolts and spacers.

I have finally go the bolts I needed! Can Anyone tell me the size of tHe spacers I need between the cap and the bolt head? So the crank doesn't hit the windage tray or do you put the spacers between the windage tray and the bolt on the smaller thread?

big_wasa - 17/12/13 at 07:25 PM

I am sure its 20mm BUT CHECK FOR YOUR SELF.

Dooey99 - 17/12/13 at 07:30 PM

I read somewhere else it was 20mm and I'm about to measure bolts and have a look but do I need to have a smaller diameter bit on the of the spacer to sit in the cap?

big_wasa - 17/12/13 at 07:32 PM

I am sure a set I had made up where 20mm x 20mm and just sat on the bearing caps with out binding or catching.

Did you try using silvertop main bearing caps on the blacktop using the blacktop bearings? Or is that a big no go

Definitely a no go, unless you get the assembled block line bored afterwards.

I'll give that a miss then I have found the spacers I think I need for £12 posted so ill order them
