hmm, halfords isn't actually a motor factors though. you'd expect them to know what a fan switch is though, but their main thing is car audio, car care (washing and stuff), generic spares (bulbs and stuff) and bikes

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Vehicle: 1990 Volkswagen Jetta GL
Part: Auxiliary Fan Switch
2 Pin, 95-84c Deg.

is your friend. You can hunt around until you find numbers that suit you better.

I think these are on old VW passats in the UK, later models have switches with 3 connectors that can run two fans (come on at different temperatures), but that is more than you need.

I went though exactly the same thing... went into Hellfrauds and asked if they did radiator fan switches and got a blank look, explained what it was and they guy asked for my registration so he could look it up on the system and order me one in. I walked away.

Next day went to the local motor factors and asked, guy pulled out a catalogue and went through all the options of different temp ranges and output pins with me.

Moral of the story, only use Halfords if your are desperate, and even then be prepared for disappointment.

Cheers

Yep no good unless its a radio, window filim or a big daft exhaust.
The local guy who had the motor factors was spot on he grew up on all the old school stuff, escorts, capri's and cortina's.
