Alloy sump leak

My alloy sump was cut n shut by a friend but has a couple of small leaks from the welds.

I have tried some chemical metal putty stuff but that appears to be porous!

Anyone know of something I can use that's oil proof? Either paint on or putty?

Thanks

I've seen this stuff used on the seams of homemade petrol tanks to prevent seeping. Worked a treat.

A smear of the grey Dirko seal (not the red stuff, it's not so good) will do the trick. This is the stuff that VW use to fit sumps, water and oil pumps etc. Smear it on and leave it to set or smear it on and push a small metal plate over it and use the Dirko seal to bond it over your leaky area and it will sort it.

Thanks Ash

It was Jim that welded it ;-)

I will try another bodge. If that doesn't work Joe has offered to do it and he is quite local.

you may as well just mark it up and give it to joe, in my experience you will never stop it leaking from the outside, it will always eventually seep through. the problem with welding up ali sumps is they need leak testing at least overnight with coloured dye, being cast you can get a bit of porosity creep in that takes a while to show up. have modded tones of cast ali sumps and in my experience a good 40% need a second tickle with the tig.
