Is this the ultimate BEC engine for the street?

The Motus MV4R - 1650 cc and 180 BHP at 8200 revs - weighs 150lbs with 80ftlbs of torque at 2000 revs. This must make a great streetable bec.

I wouldn't mind the bike either but vrek expensive.

For those metric people (me included) the 150lbs weight = 68kg.

£7k for a crate engine... it's not cheap but not unreasonable.

Which does mean that it's not anything like as ridiculously tall as most modern DOHC engines, at least?

Very true, and probably accounts for the, relatively, low RPM for a bike engine?

Pretty but 100bhp per litre is not very exciting. It is seriously tall. It is a wet sump. It has 2 valves per cylinder. It's a V4 - which is generally horrid to balance.

It is not even particularly light.

Each to their own I suppose but a fairly ordinary 4 cylinder twin can modern car engine seems a far better bet.

Looks like a couple of Honda GX lawn mower engines joined up, hardly the ultimate as technology has moved massively

They do say on the website that it is basically half a small block V8 using the same architecture so they're treading a well trodden path. All the development work is already done.

But for our purposes...

Little more power than a £200 Zetec on throttle bodies.
Way down on torque everywhere compared to my own 20 year old 16V.

Would be fabulous perched on the front of a "Morganesque" three wheeler though and looks OK in the bike.

Other than that...meh.
