Lap top with serial port

As the heading I'm looking for the above for the obvious reasons, I would prefer running Windows 7 , as it's going down the workshop external condition not important.

Not sure if it would suit your needs, but you are aware that you can get a USB-to-serial-port adapter(cable), right? That's what I had to do in order for my laptop to com' with both my Race-Technology Dash2 and my Omex 710. Just an option to consider.
Good luck.
Steve, in the NLs (who will be taking the MNR to the tuner later today - woohoo!)

One of our engineers at work uses the same to connect an older RS232 device to his up-to-date laptops USB port. Works fine for him and saved him a lot of grief trying to find a laptop with a serial port.

On the subject of buying laptops I've used Laptops Direct for both work and home. No connection to me, but good service, products and prices...

You can also get Bluetooth serial adapters.... avoids having to run wires and balance laptop in difficult places...

USB>Serial adaptors work well but there are two (at least) different chip sets. IIRC the Emerald K3 ecu was only compatible with one of them so may be worth checking to see if the kit you are connecting to has a preference.

The USB-serial adapters with FTDI chips usually work well for connecting to ECUs etc.

I have a few USB to serial cables all work fine all cost a few quid off eBay

Yup got a connector but I need a laptop down the workshop so I might as well get one with a serial port.
