Anyone had one of these porkers?







Looking for something useable alongside my next project. Basically to stop me rushing it and feeling the need to have it done.

Is it fairly easy to do things to them yourself? I've spammed myself up on the usual niggles. They're suppose to be amazing handling cars, 2+2 is a little handy too.

The one i'm looking at(above) is a 968sport with a few of the clubsport options.

I had one years ago when i first went offshore and was single.

biggest problem I had with mine was the brakes kept seizing from sitting in the work compound and the condensation from sitting for anything up to 12 weeks at a time just ate disc/pads/calipers.

Other than that when I was driving it is was fine I bought mine from a local independent German specialist.

Bavaria Autowerk who always had a decent second hand cars in-stock if your looking, or they will know where to look, they used to care for mine mainly because (even though im a ex-mechanic) I couldn't be arsed doing anything myself after getting back to the beach.

spares were reasonably cheap too.





Some people can never handle the truth and always try to shoot the messenger instead of taking an honest look in the mirror (its always easier to blame another than to face reality), but secretly they wish they could grow a pair and be the messenger !!!

It's a 944 S2 the last evolution (3.0 16v, 220bhp) before they moved to the 968 CS. I had one for 4 years and loved it. It never gave me a moments trouble, but did have an appetite for front discs. The only thing it really needed was an LSD, which I think a 968 CS already has.

Yup, I had one for a few months, 1995 ish, self servicing isn't too bad, as long as nothing major breaks you're ok, parts are silly money, and at the time there wasn't much pattern stuff about, not much room to work round the V8.

I had a manual version, but most are auto's so if its a manual you're looking at don't dally, they sell quite well, auto's don't do so well.

I'm 6'4" so the +2 was a waste of time, the seat back just about touched the rear squab.

They handle ok for a heavy car, its really a GT Tourer, the 944 I replaced it with encouraged spirited driving much more, both have good weight distribution, but the 44 was just more usable, and much more economical, and 25ish is economical when compared to about 15 from the 28.

Well made and relliable, but heavy and expensive if they go wrong, check the electrics thoroughly, switches are prone to failure.

I had a 944 Turbo which was running over 300BHP. Great sportscar but was expensive to maintain. The 968CS is a great car and is one of my fav sports cars. Certainly has the whole 'handling' thing down pat.

Is it the same v8 as in the 928? That had an ally block without liners. If so you'd want a very good service history as I think they had a habit of eating the ally bores.It's a beautiful bit of engineering though apart from that.; There's a motorised cut-away one in the Munich science museum that I could have watched for hours.

the 968 sport or club sport isn't a v8. Its a 3.0 4pot with the vario timing system(240ish bhp).

The 928 v8 is a great gt but an older car and not quite the same.

I had an 1994 968 Clubsport for 2 years. best car I have ever owned. Pretty simple interior and mine had the recaro bucket seats and it was Guards Red.

As stated its not a V8 its a 3.0L 4 cyclinder with varioram so its a developmetn on from the 944 S2 engine. 236bhp I think.

Check for changes of belts for both balance shaft and camshaft and most owners look to get the cam chain tensioner and cam sprockets checked as they can wear and its an expensive fix to replace (new cams).

It was quick enough best the best bit is the steering and handling. The M030 suspension is rarer and great for track work but I suspect too hard for regular road use (although mine wasn't M030).

Mine had done 120k and was going strong when I sold it. Wish I hadn't.

Unfortunately im not as rich as most on here so thus far I've only managed the 924 and 924S but the build quality on these was excellent. Dead easy to work on too. Despite being circa 25 years old there was bugger all rust on either and everything just seemed to come apart so easily when servicing items. I can only imagine the quality is even better on the later 944's and 968's.

Loved driving them, especially the 924 - 1980 model still had plenty of 70's pimp about it. Slow as f*ck of course but very characterful.

I really want a 944 turbo. 968's are nice too but to me they command too much money over the 944.

Grrr you've got me on it now, off to look at PH classifieds!

I had a Black 968CS with MO30 and Recaros. It was the probably the car I miss the most out of the many that have passed through my hands.

Apart from the belt service I used to do everything required, which was actually very little!

I test drove one fairly recently with a view to getting another and it didn't quite meet my expectations or memories, maybe it was a dog or maybe my expectations have moved on? Great cars though, handling on the limit is sublime.

This one is a sport with mo30 ARB's which is 'suppose' to be the best compromise.

Cams are good, tensioner been replaced when the belts have as a precaution.

Gearbox rebuilt too.

I'm in negotiations with the owner regarding price

Do not discount a 928 s4, I ran one for 18 months and 50,000 miles, they are fantastic cars. These were £70,000 20 years ago for a reason

Its the only car I have ever owned that could spin the rear wheels (LSD) up to 80mph and change gears in the process (it was an auto) and flat out managed to get well into the red line so ~170mph with 150,000 miles under its wheels when flat out. The only noise I could hear was wind noise.

Closest was a 928 my dad had many years ago (91ish IIRC). Possibly a rose tinted teenage memory, but it was an awesome car. It felt like it would last forever - sort of granite carved if that makes sense. The grunt and noise from the V8 was simply magic (compared to my Fiesta 1300 Super Sport anyway!).

Can't comment on ownership, but the 968CS is a car that I wish I will own one day, and is obviously not stupid money for the car that it is, especially considering how well they handle...

I will be a very jealous fellow locoster!!!

I can't afford a club sport and I don't really want to pay more for less if that makes sense!?

It seems a club sport is a sport without some of the extra's/options and was 5k less when new, now they're 5k more

i used to have a 928GT manual,went like a rocket, and the faster it went the more stable it felt, and the brakes were amazing, i believe the 968 was when it came out, the biggest 4 cylinder petrol engine in a production vehicle, with such a big cc in a 4 pot, i guess its quite torquy, loved my 928, would have another in a heart beat, front engine rear drive porsches are nice and under rated.
