Helmet buffeting. keep it clean please. ;)
I did a trackday at Snetterton yesterday my second one with the Phoenix, the first one was at Anglesey end of last year. I had gale force winds at
Anglesey and so didn`t really get to try the car out properly anything over 80 mph in 80 mph winds felt like my head was going to come off.
Yesterday at Snetterton it was a lovely dry day with light winds and what I was finding that on the 2 long straights anything over 100 mph and my
helmet was being buffeted enough to struggle with vision and judging braking points. Has anyone else experienced this and cured it. I only have a
small Perspex aero screen about 6" tall is there a larger one that will fit reasonable should I invest in a duckbill helmet or try and develop
f1 style neck muscles.
Any suggestions or known cures welcome.

Bike helmets are prone to this, bike riders heads are tipped forwards. That's what I try to do.
Car helmets are fine.

As above, Sounds like your using a bike helmet. Get a car helmet, most come with a very small chin spoiler, it does the trick and you won't have
the problem again.

Is it possible to fit some form of "spoiler" to a bike helmet to make it more suitable to a kit car?
I have a bike helmet and was looking to buy another but this time with a built in sun visor....but if a car helmet is better, maybe I need to find one
with a built in sun visor if they exist?

The buffering is caused by the flat windscreen. You either need to get a curved one or take it off.
I would say take it off and try it. My Striker was the same, buffing my head giving a sore neck. On my MNR no screen and a constant blast but no
side to side and much more comfortable.

Phoenix aeroscreen will be curved not flat.

Yes I`m using a Bike helmet. If I tip my head forward as much as possible so I could still see where I was going it did help a lot.
So one of these should cure my woes then.

I use a bike helmet, no problems at all. I think the problem will be with the car screen. I used to run my car with a full windscreen, and the
buffeting (no side screens) was much worse than my current aero screen.

Had the same problem in my Cobra - anything approaching 160kph the shaking caused my vision to blur - fitted high back seats and dropped my bum height
an inch or so and problem solved right up to 200+kph which is the highest speed I can reach on Killarney track in Cape Town.

show, so you'd get a chance to try one on there.

I was going to buy one of these at this years Autosport show tried 2 of their helmets on, was happy with the fit of one of them and stood waiting for
the guy to serve me and although he wasn`t busy at the time he chose to ignore me. Even after saying to my mate loud enough for him to hear "
I`m sure he`ll serve me in a minute " Nope never happened.
I`m the first one to praise good customer service as most people are quick to complain but slow to praise.
So I`ll spend my money elsewhere.

I`m practically sitting on the floor of the car as it is. I think being 6 foot tall in one of these cars is a problem as the cockpits are rather
cramped. Even finding a seat to fit is a problem. If the helmet route doesn't work I`ll have to find a taller aero screen and make it fit.

imo it has mostly to do with the screen in relation to your seating position
try a temporary thing in enlarging the screen in the centre of the drivers side by some perspex .
you can fix it by some clamps , make a test drive see if there is a differnce. can you drive the car on the road?

Unfortunately the link to the pic of your screen doesn't work for me.
My Phoenix has the wrap round screen that extends part way down the sides of the car.
I have a template if you would like a copy. You could make on an inch or two higher. Or longer even.

Its not road legal so I only have trackdays to experiment at. I`m now thinking its a combination of screen to low and/or my head too high and helmet
not ideal. I`ll have to do some measuring/fabrication and see what works.

I like your sunvisor idea is that carbonfibre and what kind of clamps did you use to fix it?
Your aero screen is taller than mine is it made from a flat piece of Perspex and flex`s that much without a problem.
And sorry for all the questions but what make/ model of seats are they. I can`t find anything narrow enough to fit in the cockpit?

The sunvisor is carbon screwed to small tabs welded to the cage during construction.
The seats are Westfield items. I had to trim the side flanges on them.

Just back from a Cadwell trackday. I bolted on a Perspex extension to my aeroscreen only extending it by approx. 50 mm in front of the driver. Cadwell
only has one place where you can reach 100 mph +. There it has reduced the buffeting to almost zero and I could easily spot my braking point.
To be 100% sure its cured I could do with trying it somewhere with a longer straight but it is definately a huge improvement. I am still using the
same helmet aswell.

I would make one like Spyders but I`d have to have a new cockpit cover made aswell.
