Type 9 in put shaft roll pin hole diamater

Hi,

Making a gear shift extension to move the gearstick back.

Don't suppose anyone has a type 9 apart and can measure the diameter of the roll pin hole in the input shaft, where the selector cam (gearstick connection end), please.

I had the gearstick out and took measurements but missed this one and trying to avoid disassembling again, as getting the pin out is not the easiest and would rather not do it any more than I have to.

Roll pin is 5mm but not sure if that means the hole is 4.5mm or bigger.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

It is my understanding that roll pin sizes relate to the hole size they need to be fitted in.

Stated pin size is given in its compressed form, for example a 5mm poll pin requires a 5mm hole.

Perhaps you can drill a test hole of 5mm & try the pin for fit.

That was my thought, having measured the pin it is 5mm but a 5mm roll pin as per suggestion above would actually be bigger than 5mm making me wonder if the hole is actually smaller

wouldn't the hole be an imperial size?

3/16th is ~4.75mm

Just had a look at an ISO metric roll pin chart.

If your roll pin is 5mm diameter open, it is a 4.5mm roll pin.

Specs for a 4.5mm pin are as follows:

Before insertion diameter 4.8 - 5.1mm

Hole size: 4.5 - 4.65mm

Don't forget to lightly chamfer the pin hole you drill.

Having had several cases of roll pins coming out on classic Minis I now always use locking wire through the roll pin for extra security.
