Marlon - 19/4/07 at 07:23 PM

Well Good evening all.

I'm now less than a Week away from the test at Beverley (wed 25th), and thought that I ought to do myself a favour and post a few pics for you guys to have a perouse (think is spelt correctly!) over but then changed my mind and thought of a better idea, Post a boat load of pics for you guys to look at and hopefully pic up on the things that I have missed.
Stuff that I still know that I need to do are.........
Label up the dash,
cover under dash,
nut covers and trim on zorst can bracket,
cableties on the front indicator extensions
and also cover the top and bottom of front springs but i'm looking for sugestions on what to use on this.

Here are the pics......

Very nice build, very well done.
Do you have any rear fog lamp, or is it inserted in the rear lights.
I've covered up the extensions of the rear view mirrors with cable wrap.
Good luck for next week!!!!
cheers-JP

RichardK - 19/4/07 at 07:45 PM

Rear reflectors or are they built in to the rear lights?

Think bike rubber inner tube is ok around the coilovers.

Can't see anything else, mind you I'm know where near being ready for sva so what do I know

Cheers

Rich

Not sure about this one but what about the brake lines cable tied to the wishbones?

May be ok but worth checking.

Steve

smart51 - 19/4/07 at 08:10 PM

Do you have a rear fog light? I can see stop tail, reflectors, indicators, numberplate light but no fog.

Otherwise it looks like a nice build.

RichardK - 19/4/07 at 08:21 PM

Think the fog light concerns are answerd in the question

Nice looking build.

As above, not sure about front flexi tied to wishbone.

Thanks for the comments guys,
Yes the lights are all there, the outer rings are both tail lights and brake lights with indicators in the middle, then reflectors in the next rings with reverse and fogs in the middle of those.
The cable ties on the wishbones can come off, they are just on for the sake of it, they'll still clear everything without.
As for the shox ideas, Thanks.
Keep the comments comming, I bet I've missed somthing else!?

ReMan - 19/4/07 at 08:47 PM

I love it!
It certainly looks like a pass, in the book of "If it looks right it probably is"
I think the main debate point is the tying the cable to the wishbone, I would perasonally have said it's a no, but only recently it was condoned as "equivelant to production" so, it could go either way on that.
Good luck I'me impressed

bob - 19/4/07 at 08:56 PM

really nice build, i like the dash layout.

I used a large gator cut up for the top and bottom of the shocks and cable tied on, i bet people are sick of this pic but it does help. Rescued attachment MK Indy build pics 168.jpg

How good is your wiper sweep?

It looks like they might struggle to clear the far right of the screen infront of the driver?

zxrlocost - 19/4/07 at 09:23 PM

as above cheap driveshaft gaitors over coilovers

graememk - 19/4/07 at 09:28 PM

rubber trim missing off cycle wing bracket at the bottom flay where it meets the upright, notts picked me up on this
also wrap a bike inertube around the big nut where you adjust the coil over springs
where the seat belts bolt onto the chassis behind the seats needs covering as its a radius

The wipers when fully over, touch the edge of the screen at about the same place as the top of the support bracket on the drivers side, I could get it to go a little further down with a bit of cutting and bending of the arms and blades but I thought it would be ok as is, what are oppinions of this? The cable tie is now off and the shockers are on tommorow afternoons list.

Thanks again.
john.

Marlon - 19/4/07 at 09:42 PM

Good point about the cycle wing Greame, I got the larger trim for it from work today but forgot to put it on, I new that i'd forgot somthing,
For the harness mounts do you mean the actual nuts need covers or somthing else as they have covers already but you can't see in the pic.
And btw congrats on your pass on wednesday, Not be long till your on the road.

thanks.
john.

stevec - 19/4/07 at 10:00 PM

I think I will just add, what a very nice looking car and all the best for your SVA.
Steve.

graememk - 19/4/07 at 10:05 PM

oh and loose the bus wheel, do you need to borrow a wheel boss and pad ?

Bob C - 19/4/07 at 10:42 PM

Front flexi zip tied to top wishbone - exactly what I did for my SVA & not a problem, though I must say your ziptie looks more like an afterthought than mine! otherwise the car looks fantastic - good luck

Bob C - 19/4/07 at 10:48 PM

Not convinced your rear fog is vertical enough????
I used RC car tyres to cover top & bottom spring seats - cost me a tenner for 4 (they seem to have fallen off since......) note the slicks cost 4 times as much, if it's only for SVA use the cheaper 'rain' tyres

a very nice looking car , take loads if cable ties because they like all the wires under the bonnet to not have to much slack, they have a good nosey about in there . they failed a m8s car on the fuel filler cap radius so that had to have a bead of rubber around it.
good luck

Danozeman - 20/4/07 at 05:46 AM

Very nice car that mate. U dont see many with cream dash etc. Good luck with sva..

Oh what about the front brake pipes with the curl in? Are they aloud, looks like it puts extra strain on the pipe.

Are there warning symbols on your dash lights?? Cant quite see in the piccie.

Very nice!
Im also not sure about the curly brake pipe. Other than that Great work!

Marlon - 22/4/07 at 08:53 AM

Good morning all.
Yesterday was a fantastic day for me in the land of car building.
Got the beast insured for twelve months for a whopping £215 (mucho cheepo me thinks!), Took it on trade plates for a pre mot where it passed everything with flying colours, the mechanic (Chris) loved the car and only picked up on 2 things that he thaught could do with attention so we sorted there and then. Emmisions were well under the limits, and the headlights, although only set up by eye by me, 1 was perfect and the other was a few mm too low and that was it!
After pulling the motor out into the car park, the inlet manifold gasket gave up the ghost and chucked water all over, Although a little woried at the time I couldn't have asked for a better place for it to happen. Chris was straight on the phone to his sister in law who works at a local motor factors and got her to drop a new gasket off for me on her way home. What a guy!

So after a gasket change and a lovelly drive home in convoy with the inlaws cob ( Boy did we turn some heads) I now have today to sort the last few jobs on the list.
Thanks for all the pointers you have all come up with I'll have them all sorted by the end of today but feel free to add anthing else to the list!

thanks again.
john.

omega 24 v6 - 22/4/07 at 11:16 AM

Firstly, very nice build mate. But back to the rear fog lights. IIRC you need a minimum of 100mm between the brake and fog lights. Have you got this??? and it's not between the centres either it's from the extreme edges of the light emmiting surfaces. Hope sva goes well for you and hope I have'nt pissed on your chips.

Marlon - 22/4/07 at 12:09 PM

Well spotted that man! I'm on the case already.
