thanks guys, watch this space (will publish the failure sheet!!) BIG thanks to ConRod for all his help in getting this far and my exhaust may have fallen off but at least it was at the show mr scutter!! (exhaust now exits from the side to avoid lumps in road!)

bob - 11/3/03 at 12:08 AM

Dont panick mate i'm taking a days hols to give you suport.

Remember once youve gone though the 1st one you are only £30 away from a MAC cert, its normally only a bit of tweeking.

theconrodkid - 11/3/03 at 06:37 AM

Steve when you want the car at my place, fri pm or sat am?

RoadkillUK - 16/3/03 at 08:56 PM

Best of luck tomorrow Merlin !!! Get some photo's and take some notes man!

theconrodkid - 16/3/03 at 09:09 PM

ive got camera and cattle prod ready to go

Mark Allanson - 16/3/03 at 09:12 PM

Fingers crossed, were all behind you

CairB - 16/3/03 at 09:31 PM

Good luck Merlin. If the unexpected / undesirable etc. happens, don't blame the examiner, he may do the re-test and don't forget to book the re-test at a time that you think that you can achieve the tech adjusts within. I had an interesting 10 days adjusting after my initial test before the re-test.

The feeling of a pass certificate is only matched by the first legit outing.

Once again best o' luck.

Cheers,

Colin

macspeedy - 16/3/03 at 09:55 PM

Thanks guys!, I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow! Last adjustments at ConRods a.m., countless cups of tea and a large scotch and then we're off!!

Cheers,

James - 17/3/03 at 12:26 PM

Good Luck Mate!

Hope it goes well- will expect a full report ASAP.
Once you've finished bolting on all the bits you took off just for the test that is!

James

auzziejim - 17/3/03 at 02:12 PM

hope it went well mate! enjoy the open road!

James

theconrodkid - 17/3/03 at 06:45 PM

eeeeerm, didnt go toooo well, steve forgot to turn the cooling fan on and seing as it was a nice warm day the engine overheated and we couldnt re-start it,did most of the test, still wouldnt start, only failed on silly "sharp edges"including the spare wheel rim???.retest on friday.
btw side impact protection wont affect us!

bob - 17/3/03 at 07:39 PM

Thats pretty good news really,so the bias valve was a pass as it was then ?

macspeedy - 17/3/03 at 08:42 PM

well done, so many things to get right at once, I'm already dreading mine and the chassis isn't painted yet! Rescued attachment cogssmile.gif

merlin - 17/3/03 at 09:09 PM

Don't forget to switch on the damn cooling fan!!! As John said, car over heated and refused to re-start for the test!! Done all the 'silly' stuff in the cockpit and body work. Loads of sharp (?) edges to cover/remove (mostly done tonight!) Covered front wishbones with pipe lagging and cable ties as requested by mr SVA. All the bits I expected to fail ie- side repeaters, bike mirrors, grille all passed but failed on-
1,rear wheel rim/fixing bolt
2,rear reflectors (edges!) - binned them now as the lights have reflectors anyway!
3,battery cut-off switch
4,exhaust mounting (edges again!)
5, untidy wiring (Mmmm, should have used a loom!)
6, rev counter rim
7, upper and lower dash edges

a useful point, and i'll use the roll bar as an example, if something is deemed part of the body, it is exempt from the edge rule - if it is bolted on it is not!

roll bar welded to 2 square plates which bolt to chassis, edges of plates must be smooth. If roll bar welded straight to chassis then the top edges of the mount are exempt!! bloody stupid if you ask me!

As the upper seat belt anchors are welded through a piece of 5mm steel welded along the top of the chassis (but exposed to daylight) this is deemed part of the chassis and therefor the razor sharp edges are exempt again!

Back again on Friday so will let you know the outcome...................

bob - 17/3/03 at 10:45 PM

i'm off friday so i'll pop allong if thats ok,what time is re-test steve ?

mark_rayfield - 18/3/03 at 03:06 PM

sounds like it could've been a lot worse mate! Got all my fingers crossed for friday

JohnFol - 18/3/03 at 03:08 PM

Which test center are you using?

theconrodkid - 18/3/03 at 05:28 PM

twas yeading, west london, pretty strict but i can nearly see the place from mine.

andyd - 22/3/03 at 10:10 PM

Well what was the outcome of the re-test?

merlin - 23/3/03 at 09:02 AM

re-test delayed until early April due to work commitments. Not a bad thing 'cos I still can't get the engine to fire!! have spark, fuel, compression but it refuses to burst into life again!!

andyd - 23/3/03 at 10:10 AM

Sorry to hear that m8. Damn work always gets in the way of the important stuff!

With regard to the engine, can't you just cast a spell on it you being Merlin and all that?

merlin - 30/3/03 at 09:31 PM

spell cast!! engine now working!! (spell involved changing the head as the valve seats had changed shape!!!) At one point ConRod plugged my compressor into No.1 plug hole and tried to inflate it but I told him that to make the engine bigger it would need a re-bore at least!!!
car now ready for Mr SVA to test (again!)...watch this space
