Fitting Satellite Cable Sockets - Advice Please
John P - 6/2/17 at 09:32 AM

Hi,

I’m currently redecorating our lounge and would like to tidy up the various TV cables.

We have a smart TV which has inputs for two satellite connections as well as a normal co-ax for terrestrial TV.

Outside we have a satellite dish left by the previous owners which I think was originally used with a Sky box but we are only using free-sat.

At the moment I have just one of the two F connectors on the back of the TV connected to just one of the two connectors on the Sky Figure of 8 cable (which simply comes up through the floor boards) as the second F connector doesn’t seem to work. The terrestrial Co-Ax is plugged into a HDD recorder which is connected to the TV via an HDMI cable.

This all seems to work OK although I would have preferred to have both F connectors on the TV connected to the satellite dish.

I was hoping to fit some Co-Ax and satellite socket outlets into the wall but am a bit confused how to do this. Do I simply install a dual independent F outlet such as http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p13270 into one back box and a separate co-ax outlet such as http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p76472?table=no in another or is there a better way.

John.

you can get a combined faceplate module for sat and tv
http://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-tv-fm-2-satellite-quadruplex-grid-module-white/31768

edit, the plate I linked to may not do what you want, since it uses a combined sat and tv coax input.

Actually I did see those but am a little confused about the quadruplexer reference.

It looks like to use this you need someway of combining the two signals from the satellite dish as well as the terrestrial signal and then send them down a single cable to this unit. In fact my confusion over this is why I initially asked the question.

yea, I edited my original message to highlight this.
it is a splitter for sat/tv/radio on one input, and requires a 'combiner' near the antennas

you may be able to do it with a modular front plate system,

Satcure is a good place to look for this sort of stuff, and he also has all sorts of e-books on satellite wiring available to download for not a lot of money. They deliver their stuff quickly too.

When I did this in the old house, I bough a blank faceplate and appropriate connectors. Drilled holes in the faceplate to mount the connectors and bob was my uncle...

I was in a similar position with an old dish on the house and multiple TVs / DVRs that needed f plug satelite connectors. I just swapped the single LNB in the dish for an 8 way one and ran some more cables to where they were needed.

The LNB is just the bit that received the signal.

The LNB cost about a tenner I think and coax is cheap enough. The only pain is running the cable round / through the house. You can buy a 2 or 4 way LNB if that is enough for your needs.
