Steering Arm Extensions
Daddylonglegs - 6/3/09 at 03:22 PM

I know there are pre-made extension pieces available, but I have the offer from a local engineering firm to knock me up some for a 'contribution'

I just wondered how best to work out how long they need to be and what depth of thread inside the tube etc.

It's a standard escort rack with cortina hubs on a +442.

Cheers.

Hi. Is this any help?

In theory if you are +4" then the body of the extension should be 2".

I found that a little more thread was available on the track rod so I made mine a little longer.

p.s. The stud is 40mm long held in with a roll pin.

Edit to add. I have a book chassis that has 4" added to the center (to make it +4) with book wishbones.

Thanks for that Paul.

I guess the best thing for me to do is get the guy to tap a rod as you've got there and pin a threaded bar. Can you remember what the thread is? I seem to remember it is M14 x 2 but not sure?
