johnnybizzle1986 - 14/4/14 at 02:48 PM

Hi Guys,

Ive been told for the IVA if im using twin M/C with a balance bar in my peddle box I need to be able to lock it.

Can you guys give me an idea on how people do this?, was thinking of nyloc nuts each end, not sure if this will do?

regards Jon

Nylocs have been approved by some inspectors, the wording in the manual suggest lock wiring.
If you search on here or google there are quite a few pictures of what people have done.

If you do want to do nylocs I would suggest calling your chosen test center to be sure they are happy with that solution.

I had nylocs, infact I may have had two on either end; not enough and I failed.

I drilled the end nyloc and put a split pin through. Others have used lock-wire.

Sylva that has passed last year, did it this way:

Ballance bar iva Sylva
Ballance bar iva Sylva

Worth a call to your local test centre. Nottingham VOSA like lock nuts - I had one normal nut locked against a nyloc nut on each end of my bias bar and they were happy with that on the grounds that they were just as difficult to get off as lock wire. He also felt that drilling through the bias bar was a bad idea as it could weaken an important part of the breaking system. He's even written to head office about it

Each to their own I guess.
