Fitting a Crownwheel to the Diff?
AntonUK - 18/4/14 at 05:17 PM

I'm in the process of swapping the crown wheel on my LSD.

Does anyone have any tips/tricks to pushing the crown wheel over the diff its seems excessively tight.

Removal was difficult but eventually managed it with a vice, wooden block and a hammer.

Its an english axel.

Help?

cold diff hot crown wheel 100deg and a copper face mallet if it doesnt drop down by its self

if its nice and clean and the wife is out you could put it in the oven.

if you have ever fitted a bearing race hot you never bother with all the bashing ever again

its done... finally.... used a puller and lots of heat to get it so far, then its was close and free enough to use the fixing bolts to pull it the last 2mm... pheww..

Depends what you mean by lots of heat, an oven is OK but blow lamp is likely to ruin the heat treatment.
