E39 Differential Offset

Hello everyone,

I have a question relation to the rear mounting holes on a 540 e39 differential. I cannot seam to find out if one hole is further from the center of the differential than the other.

Could anyone with any variation of the E39 or E38 5 series help out, I am stuck until I find out for sure.

Thanks

Looks like the mounting points at the back are symmetrical about the driveshaft flanges but not the prop input?

Thanks Mate,

I was measuring my chassis constantly and then saw the prop shaft input was not in the center. I though I was going mad or screw up.

In the BMW does the propshaft run at an offset?

Has anyone run a propshaft at that kind of offset with about 400Nm or torque and 500 bhp?

Thanks

Not sure about the offset! I just pulled that off google images.

The prop runs straight down the middle, so like other rwd cars the left and right drive shafts are different lengths although I have never actually checked the bmw drive shaft lengths to confirm that, but it is standard practice on every rwd car I ever seen

I have a diff and driveshafts from an E38 7 series, if you need any specific measurements let me know what they are.
