M16 Calipers - different brands?
PSpirine - 15/4/15 at 09:33 PM

So I decided to start stripping the calipers that came with my pile of bits (read: old kit car!).

Both need a rebuild, and I was going to do it myself with new pistons seals etc. - partly because it's slightly cheaper than buying new ones, partly because I just want to do it myself.

However, I noticed that they're different brands. One is an ATE caliper, the other a Girling. Both are pretty much the same (same piston size, same dust seals, same fixing bolts and unions etc.), but are different castings.

How much would that bother you? I'm undecided whether it would bug me knowing they're different, even though they should perform the same!

If I have to get a matching caliper (one or the other), then it makes it harder for me to justify rebuilding them myself, as the cost will be comparable to just getting a rebuilt set....

DILEMMA.

discuss.

Girling made the original M16.

However it wouldn't bother me that they are different - I'd rebuild them, fit them with new pads and enjoy the car

I hate that sort of thing, they would have to be a pair.
