Alternatives to Sierra Drive Flange?
jambojeef - 25/11/15 at 10:17 AM

Ladies and Gents,

Is there an alternative to the Sierra drive flange for sierra rear driveshafts?

Im thinking does an escort / fiesta / mondeo have the same splines / bolt pattern?

If not - anyone got a pair going cheap??

Chars!

Geoff

I think the ugly Scorpio ones are the same (95-98)

mk3 Granada ones will fit but they have a 5x112 stud pattern rather than 4x108

Mk2 Mondeo front drive flanges fit Sierra bolt-on type rear stub shafts but you need spacers to take up the difference in length of the (longer) spline on the Sierra stub.

The Mondeo drive flanges use the cassette type bearings and are readily available and cheap.
(Bearing 75mm OD, 40mm ID, 37mm wide)

cheers for the replies

i have bolt on shafts which i guess means i have to hold out for bolt on sierra drive flanges

all the ugly scorpio ones are bolt-on - I'm betting that if your localy scrapyard has one it won't cost much for the whole read axle, I mean who wants a scorpio ?

So are the outer drive flanges the same whatever the sierra?

i.e. the outer most spline?

I don't think so, the bearing size of the push-in style ones is different from the bolt-on ones

I know one person who made hybrid hubs so he could use a bolt-on carrier (with the disc brake mounts) and push-in shafts as the are slightly lighter - but I know he needed to do some machining to get bearings to fit

Ok I think I geddit.

Cheers All - I shall experiment with a cheapo cossie flange I bought off the bay......

4x4 cossie rear hubs are almost identical to the normal sierra bolt-on ones

They use the same bearings:
http://www.burtonpower.com/wheel-brg-kit-r-ford-sierra-cosworth-xr4x4-abs-granada-mk3-brt910.html

The also use the same 100mm bolt-on driveshafts

Where they differ is the brakes - cossies have larger 273mm rear discs that are vented on the 4x4, but all this means for the hub carrier is the caliper mounting lugs are longer - so I'd guess the flanges are the same (not that I've got one here to check this )

What I can do is measure up the ones I've got if that's any use to you? (mine are the 5 stud Granada ones but I know they fit std sierra hubs)
