What calipers are these?

Need to get a rebuild kit for this rear caliper.

2004 mk indy - i believe Sierra running gear.

can some confirm what kit i will need?

there are only 2 version of the rear caliper - ones for solid discs and ones for vented discs
and even then these are basically the same, just ones a bit wider

vented discs were only on the 24v Granada cossie, escort cossie and sierra cossie 4x4 - everything else uses the solid ones (inc the 2wd cossie)

oh and both versions use the same pads as far as I know...

yep - agreed they are sierra calipers... just changed mine!

Looked at re-building them but not much more expensive to buy new and a lot quicker rather than messing round with these.

They are a pain to rebuild,depending on your experience stripping calipers with internal handbrake mechanisms?

If you haven't stripped any before I would be buying a complete one as above tbh.

Another thing in your picture that needs looking at sooner rather than later is the rusty lower wishbone bolt/end of bottom wishbones where they attach to the upright.
These ends/bush crush tubes have caused wishbones to snap on MK's.
99% of cars will be built with mild steel crush tubes in the poly bushes,they rust badly and seize solid.You ideally need to get some stainless steel ones,and probably new bushes.

Kev - thanks, i plan on poly bushing all round soon and powder coating wishbones.

This might explain why the rear end creaks like a very creaky thing.

My rear end is also very creaky im going to re bush the rear over the winter (along with a million other things) is there somewhere that supplies specific bush kits for the MK?

I was thinking of something like this - but need to confirm sizes. Not sure about quality of them, but poly is just poly?

Sourcing refurb'd is a good route IMHO. I did that on my front Sierra calipers when building my MK Indy. IIRC I used Big Red where you return yours and they send you refurb'd ones. I'd not stripped calipers before and the cost diference was minimal between buying refurb kits or refurb'd calipers. My rear end was Sierra drum based, but I still replaced the actuator and shoes when using them.

If you have creaking noises be very careful if you are still driving the car,if a wishbone breaks you could end up in a massive accident

If you do order from MK don't buy there crush tubes,go for these;
Look at this on eBay Haynes Roadster FULL SET 22 Stainless Steel Crush Tubes 19mm dia x 44mm long.
Not cheap but really well made and they are fit and forget being stainless steel

Oh and I wouldn't recommend buying Duraflex bushes either if you see them on ebay,I had bought some and the quality was not good and they were too tight in the wishbone,so the wishbone would not move once the crush tube as inserted.

So why would i just buy the crush tubes?
Id have assumed the ones in a Poly bush set would be stainless already.

Assume is not a good thing to do

MK supply mild steel crush tubes,as do most of the kits you buy.

If you order bushes from MK just get the bushes from them,then buy the stainless crush tubes.
