Improving bonnet rigidity
Joshy - 1/1/17 at 12:43 PM

Hi all,

After putting it off for several months, I've finally got my bonnet cut and curved to shape (well, close enough!)

It's stiffness is not as good as it could be though, does anyone have any suggestions for improving the rigidity? My first thoughts are to glue some lengths of ali angle to the underside with some super sticky ali bonding epoxy.

Thanks!
Josh

I made ally ribs for mine, shaped around plywood formers. I swaged the holes with a home made tool.
They were bonded in with Tigerseal and a single rivet at each end. Not as difficult as I had imagined.
I stiffened the straight edges with ally angle. Louvres were done by Shapecraft at Hinckley.
You've done the hard bit.
I'll find some more pics.

Nice work, by the way.

Glass some core material to the underside.

That's some really nice handywork there.
