I was thinking that we could use our collective knowledge to avert disaster and try to come up with some excellent gift ideas. Let us all know what
worked, what didn’t, what got you a slap or more importantly a coffee.
Oh and for those who have been living in the garage it’s Wednesday that’s right WEDENSDAY!! So get thinking to clock is ticking.

Fairly standard issue here, flowers, favourite box of chocs and jewellery, which I seem to be able to pic!
Just nipped back in from the garage, been paintin a chassis, not nice out there.

Bit cheap and tacky IMO. Also, it would mean I lose my comfy chair in the front room.

I have once slept on it. I came home a little drunk and since it has slight wings I kinda nodded off, to wake up when the sun came over the back

I have to say I think the hype of valentines day has got to one or two people here.
While it's true that I have not in the long run been successful at romance, on those occasions I have had girlfriends at this time of year I have
always been complimented by girlfriends (and thier friends) on my approach.
It's not about flowers, chocs, underwear etc etc it's about ROMANCE. and the trick to romance? SURPRISE.
Ok yes chocs and flowers make are a reasonable alternative. but if you really want to get rewarded do the unexpected.
a few ideas but remember they should ALL be a surprise.
Book a hotel room for the night/weekend. (ok not exactly lo-locost but a lot of hotels do special valentines day rates for bed and breakfast)
A meal at a nice resturant (it doesn't have to cost the earth just so long as it's discrete and cosy)
Can't afford a resturant? no probs... spend sometime preparing a candlelite dinner for 2. Italian is always good, french is better. Don't
forget the wine, soft music on the stero and don't cut corners.... INCLUDE desert in the meal. depending on the meal something involving ice
cream gets my vote.
Can't cook an egg without burning it? get yourself down to tesco's or asda. but instead of chocs how about a tub of haagen daaz and a chick
flick dvd to snuggle up to? (for the record 'Debbie Does Dallas' is NOT a chick flick!!!!) Force yourself to sit through dirty dancing, How
to lose a guy in ten days, or if you really want to be orginal how about a golden oldie.....any of the cary grant rom coms are a good choice (I'd
recommend father goose)

suprise? About 2 years ago on valentines day I woke up with my other half smiling and handing me a card-having been so busy with work and living at my
grandparents house while renovating a house I forgot so I made an excuse, ran down to the shop to at least buy a card, I found a card but had left
my wallet at home, the shop let me take the card and I promised to pay them later, only problem was that my gf went to the shop before I had chance
to return and ended up paying for it my life was hell for at least 2 weeks, I dont really know what all the fuss was about..........oh and birthdays
are a different matter.
and for all the unloved single people like me do what ever you want.
The cooking a romantic meal idea is the best IMO... Much cheaper than a restaurant, and you don't have to drive home!
Come on, if you can build a car for (about) £250 surely you can cook a three course meal...

Totally agree on the DIY option. Going out on Valentines Day is just daylight robbery and often the restaurants hurry you in and out so they can do
two sittings it sucks.
Last year, did the usual card + flowers thing but also got a load of organic chocolate, butter, flour etc and made an nice chocolate cake. Cost me
about a tenner, took an hour and the GF said it was the nicest thing anyone had done for her on Valentines Day...... Even told all her friends who
seemed suitable jealous...
Don't understand the whole girls and chocolate thing but hey....

Last year i did the full 3 course jamie Oliver Dinner thing. It took me about 3 hours to prepare and cook, cost a fortune, totally knacked me but went
down a treat.
This year my soon to be 5year old daughter is going to the School Valentines Disco which kind of makes us busy tomorrow getting her reday, dropping
her off and then picking back up etc so ill be going for an Indian takeaway and a bottle of Asti to wash it all down. Probe get small bunch of flowers
and card.
I have to say i dont like getting sucked into the hype but its a nice excuse to do something a little different mid-week.

I've dropped lucky this year.
Both my girlfriend and I are Savateurs (French kickboxing for those I haven't bored with it so far!) and out class is Wednesday!
We're both in the British team so we couldnt *possibly* miss a class!
Meals out are half price on Thursday!

I'm taking my loved one to a place called xscape in castleford.
Its got snowboarding, skiing, tobbogan, ice slide, climbing, dodgems, amusements and loads of stuff.
I reckon we'll have a fantastic time and it''ll be something to look back on.
just hope i can keep up with her cos she's very active and only 18.
that's about the best yet, though I hope your not her teacher...

I get a double whammy on Valentines as it's also the wife's Birthday.(40 this year)
Traditionaly I get a dozen roses (do the arrangement myself) a small box of chocolates, and a card.

I have in the past done home-cooked meal for 2, a custom romance CD, dinner out(Nightmare, but she's worth it), and even tried a little poetry.
Cooking a nice meal is always a winner, as it shows you've put some effort/thought in to it, which is the main thing. For me, being about as romantic as a house brick, actually getting some flowers/chocs is a fair bit of effort in itself!
for me its about time together, so if you see me logging on, remind me to wee off! I moved the computer into the the living room so that we would
at least be in the same room all evening!
