steering column problems

Sorry for what is probably a dumb question. Bought my haynes as a rolling chassis now have it running and driving, a lot damn quicker than I thought for a 1.8 pinto.

Anyway I have a plastic grommet whit fits into the rubber grommet as the shaft exits the bulkhead. The plastic part keeps moving out thus making the steering slack. Has anyone got any ideas??

Cheers
