Steering Lock

I just received a replacement ignition casting as I'd butchered mine before realising that you have to have the steering lock for the IVA! (Someone will probably now tell me you DON'T have to have the steering lock if you have another means to immobilise - I've been reading conflicting forum posts left right and centre!)

Just looking at it, I can't quite work out how the steering lock mechanism works. Is it linked to the ignition barrel somehow? I can see the pin and how it interacts with the steering boss but other than that I'm unsure.

You don't have to have a steering lock. You have to have 2 forms of security. Immobiliser and another (dash fitted ignition key for example).

The steering lock on that one engages into a set of teeth in the back of the OE Ford steering wheel. Don't think any aftermarket bosses have the teeth. It is tripped by removing the key.

Ignore the forum post and have a read of the manual. It's quite clear. It is as above though!.

I have one of these for mine and turned down an adapter that will allow me to fit several types of wheel. This uses the teeth on the back to allow the steering to lock.
eBay Item
I didn't pay that much for it though, second hand on ebay

Yes the pin is linked to the ignition barrel (can't remember exactly how, but I can check mine later if needed) - its easy to check its working and the ignition barrel take 2 seconds to change as long as you have a key:

Momo ones do and they fit loads of different wheel makes:

I'm sure a few other makes have them too

As above, I fitted electronic immobiliser and an ignition barrel and that was adequate for IVA.

So it all seems to work as intended but for one problem: the teeth in the back of the boss don't seem sufficient to stop the wheel turning. Further investigation needed. I think it's all linked with a steering column issue I'm just about to post about...

Yep. All tightened up and still slips past the pin.
