Live axle disc conversion

Hi all this subject has prolbably been discussed before but I'm in the middle of doing a rear disc conversion to my rear axle I've got all the parts (I think) I've got mk4 golf rear calipers escort mk4 front discs and the weld on brackets ,, I've got the half shafts ground down so the discs fit over ,the problem I'm having is the caliper carrier will only fit at the top as if I try and mount it to the rear or front it fouls the axle / half shaft secering bolts the discs are 239,5x10,2x8,7 if that makes sence to anyone
