CV joints (Lobro / bolt-on)

Stupid question time I'm afraid....

I'm re-building by driveshafts with all new / re-con parts, but what sealant should I use between flanges ? I'm guessing instant gasket is the answer (Hylomar blue or similar) but what would you guys use ?
(the ford manual quotes some ancient obsolete spec number with no alternative listed)

Also the boot itself is a bit different from ones I've seen before and what was on the donor.
It appears that its got space for 2 clips around the shaft, the one on the end is very narrow and looks like its just for a cable tie or similar.
The second one in is the right width for the clips that came with them and has the thicker section on the rubber to grip the shaft.

I assume that its the second clip that needs to go over the lump on the shaft (and does most of the work) and that the small one on the end is just a dust seal ?

They came with the usual metal bands, but nothing for the narrower bit on the ends (and no clues, pictures or instructions either of course)
