Crashes with locost

Hi there,

How does a locos look after an accident? Can they handel some, or are you as good as death after a crash?

Does anyone have some pics of a crashed locost?

nice positive attitude!

you can work it out

if you get hit up the back of a road car, you have, what, 8 feet of car between you and your back. In a lcost a foot or two.

In a road car you will have 9 ins or so between you and the outside of the door and beams in the doors - for what they are worth. In a locost your body is against the side and your arm hangs out.

I think its pretty clear the survivablilty rate is lower.

1st rule - avoid the accident in the first place. A car like a Locost should be better at doing this as it is more manoeuvreable (sp?) and can brake/accelerate out of trouble better.

However in an accident, they are remarkably resilient. I'll try and post some photos I've got of someone who had an accident in one. Equally, I know that a racer barrel-rolled one at Donington 4 or 5 times, then got out and walked away unharmed.

The only thing I would worry about would be side impact, as you sit right next to the side. Hence all us races have side impact bars - and they really work well.

Probably marginally safer than a Reliant Robin.......but not as practical.

Personally, call me a wimp but, I shall be mostly wearin' a crash helmet when I'm drivin mine...an big boots....and an even bigger grin!!!

The way I look at it is that it's a LOT safer than a motorbike.
Alez wrote off the Isonblade and he reckoned the chassis is very strong and resists impacts a lot better than he expected.

Hi,

Take a look at this video. It shows a norwegian race car in the norwegian locost championship. The car was hit by 3 other 7'ens front and rear: http://koni.no-ip.biz/film/rejsa/Locost/

Altso take a look at the Norwegian Locost Car Club: www.nlcc.no

Takes a while to download but theres some good racing in that clip!

Giving me the bug big time.

The cars seem to hold up pretty well to the accidents.

All the norwegian cars is buildt on MK engineering basis. Cars with bike engine race along with car engine. As you can see on the video there is pritty close racing in the norwegian series. The top cars have better lap times then caterham superlights.

My old car in picture.. Rescued attachment trulslocost4.jpg
