Renaultsport Clio Engine Option
oldy - 22/4/17 at 05:08 PM

Hello all,
I have a Renaultsport Clio 182 engine mated to a Ford T9 gearbox.
The required bellhousing is a prototype at present.
Do members think this option would be attractive for new kit car builds or for re-engining existing cars?

Interesting combination, just a couple of thoughts -

Iron block so not the lightest and two stage variable valve to sort out with an ecu unless you have a solution using the OEM ecu and loom.

Not sure I can see any advantage over a duratec or even a st170.

Happy to be proved otherwise though.

Im massive clio fan, but the engine isnt what makes it great. They are a good engine but there are much more powerful and stronger engines out there. But if looking at gearbox options chech older volvo as they share a pattern, its popular to fit the Renault engines in older volvos for drifting.

Megane 225 should bolt up then ? No vvt and a turbo but I can't see a standard t9 lasting long.

Cost of regular cam/aux belt changes would put me off. I have the genuine Renault tools which cost £140 and if the dephaser starts rattling that's £100 on top.

Yep they really are money pits.

Just done bottom swivel bearings, steering arms and track rod ends steering rack bush, new boots.

Still have the belts, clutch and track upgrades to do yet.
