Speedo's

Not the type for swiming in!

I am putting a bike engine in my car and need to know how the speedo is coupled up, does it use magnets on the driveshaft?

if so are they programable?
What sort of £££ are you talking for one of these and where can i get one from?

i have also seen bike engined cars using the bike speedo, dont most bikes take the speedo information from the back wheel, how can this still read true when in the car?

there was a recent thread where stu16v (i think it was him anyway) described how he calibrated a speedo by sticking magnets onto his prop. not a clue aside from that. he must have been using a pulse speedo rather than an older cable one.

should be fairly simple once the theory is revealed by someone in the know!

did i see that you wanted to use motorcycle guages? If so the speedo picks up from magnets on the drive shaft, so this bit would be fairly easy to sort out. Not sure about the tacho though

MK9R,

I am putting a bike engine in it and have ordered the clocks from E-bay.

The tacho will be fine but it is the speedo i need to fugure out.

Its a Honda CBR1000, does that use the magnets etc? and can it be re calibrated to fit my car?
