Road legal track tyres

Can anyone advise me on what road legal track day tyres you all use? Its for an SSC Stylus that has/is being supercharged with around 220-240 bhp

I need to drive the car to and from the track. I tracked my Renaulstport Megane 225 using Nankang AR-1s and they were incredible but terrible in the wet.

They are 15 inch wheels.

There is always a (big) trade off between wet and dry grip, you can’t have both only find a tyre that may give you enough wet grip not to scare the hell out of you on the road

The road stuff i can live with. If i have to drive at 50mph to and from the track then i will. Its all about grip on track. The Yokohama AD08R get amazing reviews but they seem to have stopped making them?

Avon zzr's for a light car in cold/damp climate.
Gave me so much more grip than everyone one else on this cold, damp day at Brands.

This - even if it's not cold / damp.

The car will simply 'feel' better, the tyre construction suits a light car better IMHO.
Back to Back tested Toyo's / Yoko's / Avon's when properly going for the a speed championship a few years ago, Avon's were quicker but also just made the car easier to drive quickly.
If you're going for out and out performance you can get some sizes in A24 compound (a 'Medium' for single seaters & Sevens) through BMTR, the standard compound is a A60(IIRC) which is a medium for a saloon or a hard for the lighter stuff - get these at any Avon supplier.

BUT

When it rains
Get / Keep them warm and up to the point of standing water you'll have grip.. If it really pi55es down park it and go to the café..

Or get a 2nd set of rims with Rainsports.

I would go for Avon's but I would go for the ZZS instead of the ZZR.

The ZZS are brilliant in the wet and dry and are used as a control tyre for some of the Caterham race series - I cannot fault them.

ZZS is a better compromise for the road/track.

Be aware that none of these performance tyres like low ambient temps to the point the some manufactures warn against using them in sub 7 deg C temps to avoid cracking.

Seriously consider going to 13” if you can, the tyres will have been designed with the weight of a caterham instead of a tin top that would use 15”.

Also looking track road leagal tyres.
At this moment have several option in mind from revies they have good grip.
Federal FZ-201 - i think i wll go for them

Thanks for all the replies chaps. Ive had fun watching the youtube reviews on all the brands mentioned. It seems dry performance is pretty even. The wet is a totally different ball game.

Regarding going from 15 to 13 inch rims......will it mean i lose an inch of ride height? or will it depend on the wall profile of the tyres?
