Rioters sentencing
UncleFista - 11/8/11 at 08:41 PM

Before the thread was closed, there was a conversation talking about what punishment the rioters will be getting.
If you "do" twitter you can follow #gmpolice (Greater Manchester Police) and they're publishing the sentences the rioters are getting as they go through the courts.

I wish I could see their faces as they get sent down for 4 month for "ranting and swearing at police" etc

mangogrooveworkshop - 11/8/11 at 08:44 PM

will check that out

scootz - 11/8/11 at 08:46 PM

There are some belters there! Sentencing form yester-year!

caber - 11/8/11 at 09:28 PM

As the prisons are already overcrowded exactly where and for how long will they get put? Are they going to have waiting lists for cells "oh you are free to go now come back in 3 months when we have a cell available" or are a lot of the sentences going to get commuted to "community service" or house arrest with a tag. None of this entier episode makes any snse!

Prison overcrowding is not a major issue to me, open the cell door, chuck 'em in.
If you don't like sharing, keep your nose clean.

Sympathy level zero.

Reminds me of the old joke about who was the last 30st
man to ride a Derby winner.....

Before someone says "keep up at the back" Why was the thread closed? Not that i have seen it but very intrigued

UncleFista - 11/8/11 at 10:10 PM

The overall colour of the majority of rioters was mentioned (not racism), then someone popped up with a false binary of "are you racist or blind" and the thread was closed.

Racism

Edited to add, I'd have closed the thread too, once the "racist" word gets bandied about, it's probably best...

bmseven - 11/8/11 at 10:39 PM

Not only is Prison to good for the scum bags but you and I pay for them, I realise we probably allready pay for them.

National service and send them out to meet the Taliban

eddie99 - 11/8/11 at 10:47 PM

Yup they have proved they want to fight so send them off to Afghanistan!

Mr G - 11/8/11 at 10:51 PM

If we can find out the names of people via twitter who try to hide their identity by getting injuctions against the press then the same method should be used to 'out' these rioters who can't be named because of age.

I'm sure the shopkeepers who got looted would like to know the identity of the people that turned them over so they can ban them from ever entering their business again whatever age.

Re the sending them to Afganistan etc. I think we have the best armed forces in the world, and might get concerned that some of the scum might dilute that quality.

Still, could always get them mine clearing!

The French Foreign Legion did this for years.

richardh - 12/8/11 at 06:22 AM

+6 for the above

rusty nuts - 12/8/11 at 07:09 AM

A few months working on a chain gang wouldn't go amiss , or may be the stocks?. The armed forces don't want them that's for sure

that won't work. they are cowards - exactly what fight are you talking about? - throwing stones/missiles/petrol bombs from a distance against the police who cannot retailiate. hardly a fight.

easy solution - 50 lashes with a horse whip and job done. the privilege to issue the punishment should be given first to those who had their property stolen else go to the highest bidder on ebay.

thats exactly it, show them they're not as great as they thought they were. scare the life out them, put the fear of god into them, show them how easy they really have it here. if they want a fight, show them what a real fight it, none of this nonsense they've been getting away with
and if they don't happen to come back... well....

Liam - 12/8/11 at 10:33 AM

Give em guns and send em to Afghanistan and all they'll do is divide the desert into post codes and have their own little gang war . Still either way - not our problem.

+1 He'll get my vote!!

Jasper - 12/8/11 at 11:50 AM

Here's the problem though, how much of OUR money is it gonna cost for them to sit in prison and watch daytime TV for a few weeks, months, and learn how to do it 'properly' next time from experienced 'cons'?

I would rather see them out in our streets doing LOTS for proper community service, with big yellow tabbards on saying 'I'm a looting rioting scumbag', having to go and help clean up the mess they made, go and have to speak to the business owners and families of those affected, and make it go on a long time - 200+ hours of service spread over months. And if they miss it or don't turn up, then chuck them in prison.

And make sure all their photo's get put up online - on the side of buses, etc etc. Embarrass and humiliate them, and make it last.

And anybody in a coucil/civil servant job should defintiely loose it straight away.

Mr Whippy - 12/8/11 at 12:22 PM

get them building roads and railways

cliftyhanger - 12/8/11 at 02:14 PM

Somebody elsewhere suggested we could outsource the prisons. Turkey was one suggestion, but I am sure plenty of countries would bid nice and low for the contract

ha ha imagine when they get released with nothing in thier pockets,
"are you going to get me home?"
"no"
"how do i get home?"
"not my problem"

Actually that sounds like a better plan than paying for them to fill their pants or throw insults from half a mile away in Afganistan.

Fozzie - 12/8/11 at 03:44 PM

Didn't they have chain gangs/salt mines in deepest Siberia at one time.....?

Perhaps the Ruskies would like to take their 'corrections' on for us..........

Don't you think Australia would bid to renew their contract?
