Apparently there was a saying in film-making circles:
"Never work with children or animals - or Alan Rickman!"
Just like children or animals, he would steal the whole scene from all the other actors just by being a very good actor and by having a very strong
"stage presence". Viewers watched him when he came into a scene, just to see what his character was going to do.
A sad loss at 69.

I also thought he was utterly brilliant in the sherifs role, a real nast person who had to be hated,
very good acting
