Pilgrim Sumo

Has anyone had any experience with the Pilgrim Sumo? I'm looking at build quality of components etc. The ONLY car that really gets my blood flowing is the Cobra and the only way i can probably afford one is to build the Locost way and get a Sumo.

Some completed cars look good and some don't! I have the 'A car is born' series on video, guess i had better watch it again!

Cheers

Pay close attention to the expected and actual budget when you watch the video.
i did a bunch of research into building a Cobra and my view is that you will not build a "Nice" one for less than around 16K pounds.
I have seen many really C**p ones and very few really good ones.
Look in the press, the real nice ones fetch 20 to 30 k

IMHO

The sumo is probably the best value for money cobra kit on the market.

Since they lost the silly cortina door handles it looks better now,i have a couple of build manuals if you want a look.

Bob, can you bring them to the next meet, i would love to have a look, cheers.

As for build cost, well i have over the years heard of builders spending mucho folding stuff building their cars so i am quite aware of the implications to my bank account. I see this build as a long term project so i will be able to do bits as money allows.

At the end of the day it's better than an MX5!!

Just found this on the Pilgrim message board!!

I hope someone can help. I bought a part built Cortina based sumo. The guy had put a motorbike engine in it. I have taken this out and had to weld the chassis back to the original state.

Is he mad!!!!!!

I know what she means by fun and your right it doesnt involve you

Snuggs cobra is worth a look, its probably worth printing out the pics snuggs has put in his archive and taking them along to the cobra meet at epsom.
I'm sure they would know exactly what/whos chassis it is and give advice,if not they may well know a buyer which would help snuggs out.

Andy - the factory is about 3 miles from my house, I popped in there during my build to pick up one of their Electric's books. If you want to visit give me a shout and I'll come along.

From what I know Fifer is about right on budget, 16k for a half decent one.....

Cool Jasper. I was thinking of going to have a nose next Wednesday or Thursday. If thats too soon i can do the week after. I have plenty of time so theres no rush really. Whenever you're free.

It may be expensive when complete but it will be worth it!

16K and a couple of years worth of effort for about three weeks worth of driving... you reckon???

Although you might be ok... you can probably fit the Jaguar roof and heater!

i love em!

I watched the 'A car is born' series on video today (Sumo build video's!) and it all looks pretty straight forward to me. It's just the cost of the bits!! eeek!
