What track is a MUST DO track?
bi22le - 26/3/11 at 09:48 PM

Hi all,

Starting to think about what tracks I want to do this year.

Brands is a must, it is on my door step and one of the best tracks in the country.
Lydden Hill is cheap and actually more complex than it presents.

Im thinking of doing Cadwell, maybe snetterton.

I want a track that is sensible driving distance from SE London. Or if not the track must be soo good that I take the weekend and drive there, camp, trackday, camp, drive back. Also I like a track that is not too open, my car is not very interesting at 120mph banging of the rev limiter. I am also spoilt by Brands and Lydden as both cant be described as flat so I would like contours and elications to add complexity to the circuit.

Any thoughts??

Cheers,

Biz

Has to be Cadwell or Oulton,
Done Brands indy which was great but prefer the other 2. Just a long trip for you

handyandy - 26/3/11 at 10:16 PM

I have a few track favourites, all for their own reasons...

Brands for Paddock Hill bend , wow
Cadwell for the goose neck & the mountain
Donnington for the craner curves
Oulton park is my number one track, its just so challenging all around it

I,ve not been to the new snetterton circuit, the old layout was good, but flat, apart from the bomb hole .

Also try Mallory Park, its a small circuit & easy to learn but the quicker you learn it the more you can "push it"...devils elbow is a "Can I Can,t I " hold this line ...armco barrier gets closer & closer on the exit .

cheers
andy

Anglesey is a cracker, a bit of a drive for you but they do let you camp .

I was also going to say Brands, especialy as it's local to me too.

btw, what are "elications"?

indykid - 26/3/11 at 10:34 PM

I absolutely love oulton and donington, oulton for the complexity and donington for the speed you can carry pretty much everywhere (craner curves through the old hairpin especially). I love both of them for the elevation change - flat tracks do very little for me.

Cadwell is also really good, but the drive from leeds is pretty gruelling along the M180. What a boring bit of road!

I don't think you'd be disappointed with oulton, though just be careful up clay hill and through druids if it's wet

You must at some time during your ownership take your car to Cadwell.

Not known as UK's mini Nurburgring for nothing, you get 2 short breathers down the straights, the rest is all action.

eta, I take on board what others have said about Oulton above and rate the circuit, but I personally dont believe it rivals Cadwell for technical challenge or balls out stuff, the 2 chicanes have taken a lot of the fun out of it.

Mountain ?
Hall bends leading into a hairpin ?
Goose neck ?
Braking down A 1:4 hill for Mansfield ?

Thanks for the responses.

Seems Cadwell is a must, ill get onto that. Also Outon, I forgot about that.

Essentially any exciting BSB or BTCC track will be alot of fun in a se7en.

Donnigton is good actually as well. I have been there a few times to see Fords go round.

Any others?

Oh and elications was meant to be elevations!

Soz for the typo,

Biz

Wayne,

MUST do track has to be SPA. Regular track days done there and it is without question a MUST do.

I'm doing an Evening Open Pit Lane with a few other SKCC's at Brands on the 5th May. Thursday. sign on at 3.30 and track closes at 8pm. Why not join in?

In the UK - has to be Oulton...nothing comes close, best circuit in the UK.

If you can travel abroad, I'd also say Spa - just superb in every way!

bi22le - 29/3/11 at 09:10 PM

Thanks again for the recommendations.

I have driven past SPA and it is not that far away at all. About half the distance to the ring and closer than Croft probably!!

Nash I am well up for the 5th May but I think it is sold out. Im going to get on that now. Is there many SKCC going?

Be good to meet up with a few of you.

jeffw - 30/3/11 at 08:44 PM

Another vote for Cadwell but if you don't want to travell that far, try any MaccyDs carparks. They seem to be the place to go racing...

Andy D - 31/3/11 at 08:48 AM

I agree with most of the previous comments, Cadwell being my favorite too.. but another track not mentioned so far, which is suprisingly good is Rockingham. I've done a couple of different circuit layouts there, and both were good. The infield has some nice elevation changes here and there, and you get a blast on the banking too.

Ninehigh - 1/4/11 at 11:58 PM

Actually that might be a very interesting long weekend... Spa, Nurburg, and a third on the way back

Tommy P - 3/4/11 at 11:53 AM

Oulton, Cadwell, and Angelsey - but I have to say its great fun on any track

With regard to Rockingham - It's hairy the first time you enter the bowl at high speed a foot off the wall
