Trike questions

hey guys, I've decided not to bother with the idea of a 7 style kit car until im a bit better off and can afford to spend alot more time and money on one, therefore I have decided to build a trike instead, im going the somewhat boring route of using a VW beetle rear running gear and engine and hoping to build something resembling the PTW trikes (very low, large rear wheels long loooooong front forks). I've been trying to find some information on the trike version of the SVA but cant find much. I was hoping to learn things such as is a front brake required? what about a parking brake? If anyone could point me in the right direction or give me any trike building tips they would be greatly appreciated.

That's a nice looking bit of kit.

Have a look HERE for starters.

Let me know if I can help,

Neil

I have a copy of the MSVA manual, which covers all 2 and 3 wheeled vehicles plus quadricycles. I haven't read the sections on mopeds (<50cc <28 MPH) but for everything else, you need front and rear brakes and a parking brake.

interesting .... but how are you meant to steer that?

and notice the cross brace between the handle bar, perfect decapitation device.

just becasue it looks smart, doesn't mean it is.

If you have a look at the FAQ section they have video of it being steered and it actually turns really well.

You do have a point about that cross brace.

It looks so cool though

Thanks, are you sure about the parking brake, i didn't think motorbikes had them?

I thought a front brake would be required but the PTW (american) ones don't which makes it easier.

I have just skimmed that PDF and it says tricycles need seat belts :-S

three wheeled vehicles need a parking brake. 2 wheeled vehicles have a stand instead.

I'm told, though I hardly dare to believe it, that 3 wheelers will continue with MSVA rather than IVA. I do hope so.
