Saab experts, info needed.

The next project plan is a Midlana.

I bought a Duratec last night but a local guy has a couple of Saabs . One of them engines ive always wanted to play with. They are automatics. Do Saab auto boxes have any control from the ecu ? is the ecu the same for auto and manual ?

ie can I take the engine and loom and slap on a manual fly' and box ? or is it like a ford where the ecu has feed back for the kick down and other stuff ? What security do they have ? so what bits do I need ? Engine will be a b235 .

cheers

The wife will kill me haha

I am using the B235 as well.
I do not know about the ECU
But, I could send you a picture of mine... and the wires to it
Might help you reverse engineer the answer...
(2001 saab 9-3)

Altough, If you can wait out ...
try and get a B204 or B234... they are the better engine.
And handle more boost/power
(saab 9000 and pre 2000 9-3)

Yep the B234 is the daddy but ive missed the boat on these as they have all been scooped up or have done stella millage.

The b235 just has cheaper pistons don't they ? and these are said to be good for 300hp ?

I see your point,
try the continent...
It's a bit more extensive, Pistons, conrods, head, cranck, even the block is different.
Indeed 300bhp is a popular shout

mind when you're buying gearboxes! They are not problem free.

Careful if you are looking to go RWD in the classic 7 layout. Pre 94 9000 b234 engines do not have the GM Bellhousing pattern and so no easy bolt on gearboxes.

It's a 1999 so will be a b235. The b234 would be fine as it would run transverse in a Midlana.

I've never had an auto and not really the done thing in a kit car.
