bike throttle bodies for mx5 engine
andy o - 8/2/12 at 07:54 PM

hello all
i have been searching and bidding for gsxr1000 k1/2 throttle bodies for an age, because they can be spaced etc
but today i was told that i have direct injection so all i need is the bodies with injectors removed and holes blanked so all you need is a butterfly and tps on the manifold,
if thats right then i have a loom and fuel rail sorted so heres the questions

does that sound right?

would spacing be so important if just moving air(make sourcing bodies a lot easier as a lot are in pairs)?

engine will run with either a megasquirt or emarald ecu depending on budget
thanks
andy

Which mx5 engine is it? Mk1 and 2 don't have direct injection. Don't know about Duratec.

it is a 97 uk spec 1800 mk1
the injectors and fuel rail are in the head not in inlet manifold
me saying direct injection is probely wrong but then i was bought up with plugs and points

I think you will find GSXR 1000 a little large, you may be better with GSXR 600 depends whether you want drivability or absolute power.

The GSXR 750 will also be suitable and so will Hayabusa bodies they all split easily.

The Duratec engine does have the injectors mounted in the cylinder head, so you blank off the ones in the Throttle bodies.

Here's mine (GSXR 750) you will see Ive blocked off the injector ports.

Oh forgot to mention Fastdan on here makes the manifolds

Sorry Andy, but if it's a Mk1 the injectors mount on the manifold, not the head.
