Locost Rear Wings

Howdy.

What is the general consensus for rear wing/arches width on a Locost with an English axle?

Reason i ask is i bought a pair recently but i think they are two wide, just want to check.

Low7man on ebay makes them to size, as 185 tyres on a english axel require a narrower wing.

Thanks for that, bit of googling shows his work is well liked, 185 is the current thinking of tyre size.

I'm thinking of narrowing our current ones, so a dimension from body to outside edge would be phenomenal if anyone would be so kind.

I bought my wings (f&r), bonnet, nose, scuttle and rear panel from him. The rear panel was the only item I did not fit as it was not the right size/shape for my car (used ally with some black wrap in the end). The quality is good and the price is even better. Best to collect if possible.

I narrowed mine with no problems.

I have the escort axle, 19mm wheel spacers, 195.50.15 tyres and the wings were still too big. I cut out 30mm from each wing and now it looks right.
Didn't worry about the width measurement wise other than guessed what looked right and did the same both sides.
Cut the surplus out of the centre and joined it back up. Lot of work but well worth it.

I was considering the same option of cutting the current wings but at the flange (chassis side) and then making up a new flange from either some thin mild steel or some thick ally tags mounted with some button head Allen bolts.

Theory being is that a good cutting blade on the grinder would do the job and i could keep the current curves on the front and rear of them.

Benchmark - would you mind if i queried what offset you run?

I have no Idea what the offset of the wheels are without measuring them. I know the rim width is 7 inches. The
backspace is about 4 inches so about 1 inch positive offset. 19mm spacers used on rears also.
The overall width of my rear arches is 27 cm. I left the flange alone as it fitted well and didn't want to disturb it.
I estimated I needed to remove 30mm. I put 30mm tape front to rear and cut either side of the tape. Put the 2 pieces together
and on the underside, put the cut off piece to bridge the cut. Drilled through and countersank rivets to fix it all together.
Gave it a good roughing up with a sander and new glass mat and tissue to finish. I had plenty of clearance under the
wing so wasn't an issue. Did it some time ago now and had no problems at all.

If you are going to cut them to suit the width you are looking for use a GRP diamond cutter on a 115mm grinder, if u abrade the inside of the arch with say 60 grit disc on a flexible backing pad then place it on a piece of conti board you could use it to mould a new inner flange in grp as a "one off mould"? Thats how I do alterations for customers, if u do it neat you cant even tell its been done

Next time I will use the front guards on the back as well.
