We would like to change our bathroom colours, as the tiles are brown, and i really do not fancy retilling the whole room
what is the tile paint like, is it succsesfull ?
and would it be ok in the shower ?

Someone must of used the stuff!

Looks OK from a distance, we did our old kitchen tiles. No idea on its durability as we moved out not long after.

I recently did our ensuite, removed the tiles (sliced finger and trip to A&E) then put on the plastic tile effect panels. These are better than I thought they would be. Far easier to put on than tiles.

Do it properly... anything else is a bodge and you know it!



You could tile over the top? Save you taking them all off!

Can be difficult around windows/services etc. but certainly works on 'plain' walls.


As for removing them... one of the best tools I have is my Ryobi hammer drill with roto-stop. I have a wide chisel bit (a proper tile remover is better still), you work it behind the tiles and they just fall off!

Obviously you'd be mad not to wear goggles, ear defenders and gloves!

tile paint works really well, as previous poster mentioned,

prepare, paint, and then move house, just what I did!!

Another one here, painted the tiles, looked great, sold house 1 month later.

Job done

Mind you, i suppose it would be cheaper for you to re-tile rather than sell up

Only time I saw painted tiles they were in a shower, and had started to peel off, was quite some time ago and what paint had been used I have no idea. Possably the newer tile paint is better. Cheers Ray

Like most things its all down to the preperation. If you want to do a proper looking job then scrapping out a depth of grout before painting will look the best at the end with a fresh re-grout. Tiles need to be thoroughly degreased. Two types of tile paint, one that requires a special primer first and those that claim to not need one (B&Q cheapies). I used a seperate (international) primer and paint then a re-grout. After putting it on don't be tempted to keep fiddling with it or you won't get the best finish. It served its purpose in a rented place where retiling wasn't an option

I had a green bathroom.....

Had it skimmed last week, and today started laying the new floor..... Lot of work, but reckon it will be sweet when it's finished.



Depends if you can be bothered, but after 3 years I was so sick of green, slate floor and White tiles with a White suite, much better!

We painted our tiles, it lasted five years before it started to flake on the grout. The OH put a major amount of work into it though.

When I gutted the bathroom, it took me less time to tile the entire room than it took for her to paint the original!!

Personally I wouldn't bother with it again.

I wouldn't have painted my green ones, was advised about 2 years ago to do it. But like others, I feel the only way is to do it properly, meaning strip it all off and then start a fresh. Hence why I lived with it green for 3 years!

Painting the odd tile in the kitchen lasts fine, in the bathroom the more abrasive cleaners seems to wear the paint out, but it still lasts a while and can look surprisingly good.

Not bad for a pre-move refresh though.
